The Sunflower

How many times are we like the sunflower ?

It is easy to look to God 

When we see God's wonders around us .

But when life gets messy ,

It can be difficult to see God's working .

We may hang our heads 

And let our hearts turn away from God .

Trusting in God and waiting 

Patiently for God's answer

Can be the hardest thing 

That we face on our spiritual journey 

However , we can keep our eyes 

Fixed on God 

And follow where God leads 

Even on  cold cloudy days .

I Can Write

Now I can write about the journey toward healing .

I have experienced and the blessings I continue to receive .

A sense of peace , my grandson , the support of friends 

And family and church and a connection with others 

Who have lost loved ones 

To covid and suicide are some of the gifts 

That have turned my life's greatest tragedies into something 

Powerful and good .

He Will Listen

God will listen to our prayers anytime ,

Regardless of what we have done in the past 

Or where we are in our spiritual journey .

All we have to do is show up, turn our distractions ,

And open our hearts .

We are not always successful in listening to God ,

But we have learned that its always worth the effort .

I Am Frightened

When I am frightened in the night

And I have so many things racing

Through my mind .

Oh Lord , I need you by me ,

I love you .

When I am in bed and then just lay and pray 

And I do not hear a thing ,

And I can not sleep 

I take my fingers 

And make a cross 

That reminds me 

That you are here .

I therefore no longer frightened 

Because of you and your glory .

On this Easter Morning

Thank You Lord once again 

For protecting me and loving me .

I love you to and thanks for saving me .

He Is Less Than One

He is less than one year old .

He seems to only have one single purpose 

And that is to be himself .

He has that touch .

He has that reach .

He has a special laugh .

He has a sound that is his own .

His voice boy can he sing !

He has an impact on everyone he meets .

For there is a smile in him always .

As the broken pieces of pottery

Created a beautiful story ,

God can use our brokeness 

To give hope to others .

Together we can tell a beautiful story 

Of God's restorative love .

The older you get the more you lose .

So hold on to what you got before you lose it .

The older you get

The more you will use 

The words lost and change 

And you will know what I mean .

The more you have lost 

The more you will see change 

And more memories you will remember .

The Season

God will lead us 

In all sorts of ways 

Instead of feeling resentful 

About giving something 

Up for Lent ,

We may find ourselves looking 

Forward with anticipation 

To the new experience  ,

God is calling us .

What do you want to be 

I suspect a child would answer

The question differently about everyday .

But one thing is for certain 

Who we are in Christ is forgiven .
