Angels Today

God may still use angels today 

 To deliver messages ,

But we can be certain that He sends us 

To speak His words of hope and promise  .

We are given  the opportunity 

To speak the Good and the 

News of the saving 

Gospel of Jesus Christ 

To the people in our sphere of influence .

It may be through a long conversation  ?

It may be a simple greeting  ,

A cup of green tea 

Or a listening ear  .

Our fear we have in sharing our faith 

Is that we may not know what to say .

We thank God for the angels 

Who remind us that we are sent to speak 

God’s word .

Not our own. .

May the Holy Spirit lead and guide us 

In our conversations anc interaction 

With others 

So they may hear the voice of God .

The Christmas Tree

While the tree brings joy 

Into our homes with the festive lights 

And decorations  ,

We also realize that the tree is dying 

Because it has been cut from its source 

Of life .

We provide water for it on a daily basis ,

But that is not enough to keep 

It from dying out and losing its needles .

When January comes and the tree 

It has dropped its needles leaving the house

It is a great reminder of the gift of life 

That once came from a tree 

That was dead .

It was through His death and resurrection  

That we receive life and healing  .

I Am Perfectly Okay

If we are  wondering whether God will forgive 

A sin 

That we think is so  shameful 

It can not be forgiven  ,  

They that sin is forgiven .

If we are feeling  

We do not have enough strength 

To face another day ,

The  God gives us the strength  .

With faith in the Lord  ,

I know each day 

My hows , 

Whats  ,

And whys 

Are answered 

 More than  I can ever figure that out   

 For myself  .

Therefore at any time 

I am doing more than Okay  .

Walk

Where do you look when you walk

With your dog or by yourself ? 

One day while walking .

I noticed that I tend 

To look down at the ground  .

To keep my eyes on the ground .

I know I will miss out on the beauty 

Around me  .

As well as any potential danger around me .

Jesus encourages us to always 

Be awake 

And to watch what is going on  .

We need to keep our eyes focused on Jesus

We are not here forever

Are You Groaning

 All of creation is groaning .

The weight of sin in this world 

Is oppressive and unrelenting .

War , fire , flood , earthquake 

Storms  and famine seek 

To do their worst .

Even as our loving father may permit 

Such calamities  ,

The largeness  of His grace 

Is greater than the worst 

This sinful world can dish out .

We are never outside of our Lord’s  purview .

Our loving father still has the world

Yes , He has the whole  wide world 

In His hands. ,

Even as the Savior’s own outstretched 

Arms embrace all for whom 

He died and rose .

Wait

As Christians we live in a constant state 

Of waiting .

We are people waiting along 

With all of creation 

For our Lord to come back .

When he does  

He will make everything perfect again .

We will be reunited with everyone .

He will make everyone 

We love 

Who has died in Christ before us ,

And nothing will be broken 

Like a heart anymore .

We have faith that this will happen 

But we do not know when .

So we have to wait .

God Moves

Often we look for God to move

In mighty ways .

We look for the parting of the sea ,

But we forget  that so many times ,

God shows up in simple moments ,

Guiding  our steps each day  .

In each small need that is met ,

We are reminded that God is with us 

In something as simple as a sunrise 

Or a smile from a strangler 

Who was called Smiley .

Make A Way

We will enter a wilderness 

At some point 

Financial crisis , isolation , sickness .

But God will find a way 

Sometimes it may seem miraculous  .

The provision of a well paying job ,

New and successful business  ventures 

Healing but other times ,

God works in simple ways 

Like making a part time job

Available to us 

Or sending someone to keep us company 

When we are lonely .

We can trust God to make a way 

For us in every wilderness .

The Judge

All people see their sin .

The question is what comes next  ?

In Christianity without Christ ,

There is no solution .

With Him , we see our sin 

And then we see our Savior .

We know God is the  judge 

And we know we deserve  judgement .

But we also know Christ .

We know we are not just sinners .

We are forgiven dinners .

It is a guaranteed promise 

Because fit is made by 

The only one who has the authority 

To condemn and to forgive .

It is the promise made by the judge Himself .

The one who judges has to be 

The one who saves .

Otherwise it is powerless 

Praise God that He does judge 

And that through Jesus ,

His judgement is not guilty  .

The Lord Calls

Our Lord calls us to a life 

Being a disciple of Jesus 

Is a lifestyle indeed .

From the day He met us in Baptism ,

The Holy Spirit has led to confess 

With our mouths and to believe 

In our hearts in Christ as our Savior .

By His grace and Spirit ,

We have been reoriented to Him 

And His work in the world  .

His mission is now our own .

His message too .

How beautiful are the feet of him

Who brings good news  .

A Young Child

To picture  a young child 

Bursting with excitement 

While stringing together 

One and after another .

The bearer can not help but smile 

At the pure joy flawing 

Out of the child .

So it is for us before 

The throne of God .

We know that we 

Are not working 

To stand in that holy place ,

But that we have received mercy 

Because the lamb is worthy .

We join all the company 

Of heaven praising  Him in awe 

And joy and perfect pease. .

His Weakness

For all His mighty deeds 

And awesome works. ,

There is one act above all rest 

That demonstrated  His power most fully  .

The act was displayed 

In His Son’s  weakness on the cross .

There we find Jesus ,

Helpless and suffering .

In His suffering is our freedom from 

Our sins .

Jesus could have entered a  His time 

On the. Cross whenever He wanted 

But he did not .

He chose to bear the full weight 

Of our sins 

On the cross out of love for us .

That is real power .

I Once Was

God knows who we are. .

He knows the depths to which 

We may have fallen with  every 

Sinful thought 

With each unkind remark 

And with each rebellious  act .

Yet in the nick of time ,

Jesus stepped into the fray .

And willingly took the weight 

Of all our sins on Himself ,

Hung upon a cross ,

Jesus proved the depth of the Father’s love .

With His forgiving word  

We too are given a future and hope. .

Thanks be to God in Christ .

God’s Good News now reigns .

The war won .

Temptation

              

What temptation strives 

To overtake you ?

What affliction seeks 

To humble you

God has e-mailed to us in the  form 

Of His Word .

It is a word that  both slays 

And grant life .

The very Word  is life .

It is God’s own love e-mails  to us  ,

To be received with eagerness 

And joy whenever it is read .

It is this Word  when spoken  and  lived 

That brings life to those around us  .

The Light

Jesus is the light of the world .

No matter where we go or what we do ,

He is the light shinning in the darkness .

With his light shinning in our hearts 

We are a new creation .

We may not see bad habits as sins .

Certainly a bad habit 

Here or there can add up 

To a big problem .

Research shows that the best way 

To get rid of a bad habit 

Is to develop  a new o one .

Jesus can break sin’s grip  on us  

When we have good habit ,

Like when we pray  regularly ,

Let us study God’s Word 

Go to church weekly 

Avoid situations of temptation .

Strengthening  these habits 

Makes a difference in our lives 

And fill us with Jesus   power  .

If Jesus Calls

If Jesus calls ?

The gracious  reign  and  rule of God 

In the hearts 

and lives of His redeemed ones 

Beckons us to give thanks 

And then to get out there !

If all can seem so over whelming  .

Our own sins and shortcomings

Try to convince us 

That we do not have a place ,

But we do ,

Because it is the Lord who redeem us , 

And it is the Lord Himself who sends us 

Forth in His name ,

Today , we rejoice to join Him .

There is still so much work to do .

God’s Generosity

God’s generosity is evident  .

He did not spare His own Son 

But gave Him up for us .

We can trust that He will give 

Us all things need full .

As we open our hearts and hands 

More and more to others  .

God  supplies us with more and more to give

When others see our generosity 

And see that it comes through our faith 

In Jesus and God’s promised provision ,

They too will offer a sacrifice 

Of thanksgiving to God .

Generosity results in true thanksgiving  .

Profess Faith

When we profess faith ,

There is a prosperity and inheritance 

That will endure far beyond 

Our accumulated wealth 

And possessions .

The real anc lasting  legacy 

We leave our families  and friends 

Is a legacy of faith ,

Conveyed by God’s covenant  with us .

Perhaps right now those we love 

Are not interested in this gift .

It is still our responsibility 

To hand it down 

We know “someday “ they will need it 

And God will be waiting for them .

It is OK Evert day 

To laugh  to cry and think .

It is OK to call someone

That you care .

It is OK to make someone laugh so hard 

Their gut will bust .

When you walk with them down the street

To help them on their way .

And not say a word .

It is always good to just be there.

Perfect Love

The phrase love never ends .

Maybe confusing until we read the good 

News 

That God is love .

It is His love that is perfect 

And enables us to love .

We love because He first  loved us .

The original word for love

Means that God is perfect  , God is kind  .

He rejoices with the truth  .

He did Bear and endure all things 

We see that on the cross .

God’s love for us is perfect and never ends. .

How Blessed We Are

How blessed we are that the Savior 

Meet us. ,

Especially in times of sorrow and grief  .

We are comforted to know that He 

 Not only forged the way through 

Death by means of His own death 

But He also is the way 

When our loved ones is called home .

The hope of His resurrection 

Wins the day !

Rejoice in the blessed hope

Breathless

Breathless for what lays ahead , 

Our Savior turned to prayer 

To the hope and love of his Father ,

Who not only heard His prayer 

But ultimately answer  it 

Not with the finality 

Of the cross but with an empty tomb   .

Child of God  hold firm and fast to prayer  .

Prayer is faith breathing .

Where in , if God gives prayer  to us 

As a gift  ,

He will hear and answer 

And we may stand completely

Thanks be to God  through our Savior 

Jesus , that God’s forgiveness is never

Withheld .

When His people return to Him 

In confession ,

What is more , God restores 

What is lost  ,

Whether our innocence 

Or our chastity

What is most precious  to us ,

God can restore  us 

To a newness of life  .

His forgiveness grants us all 

A brand new start .

The Boat

Jesus rescues us every day .

He does not let us drown in guilt .

He rebuked yes the word is clear that we

Have sinned 

Yet even while rebuking  ,’

Jesus rejoices to save ,

He stands ready to shower us 

With his grace immediately .

The same Lord who calms the wind 

And the waves and he walks on water 

Is the one who grabs hold of us 

And brings us back into the boat 

Where we belong .

The church has seen itself as a boat 

Because  that is where our Lord  

Has promised 

To be to protect us 

From the dangerous waters of the world .

Jesus fully inhabited our human condition .

He knows the bite of a hot summer .

He experienced the emotional pain

And being abandoned by his people ,

Just when we most needed 

His presence like a hug  .

Emboldens us to approach him 

From the limits of our own humanity .

Peace is never easy .

The way of sorrows 

And the cross prove that 

Yet what fruit we enjoy 

When we kneel beneath the cross 

And hear the Savior’s Word  of forgiveness .

We are set free 

From the bitterness 

And strife that would otherwise consume us 

And drive us apart .

Our choice is not of a rock 

Or a hard place 

It is a joyful place

As we pass between Jesus 

Two pierced palms.

It is a joyful place to be 

Forgiven and now forgiving

The Right Way

No matter what kind of work we  do 

Like  washing dishes the right way

Like dancing in the kitchen 

With a child  , a friend , a loved one 

Like when you paint indoors or outside 

Or write 

Or draw 

Or to just have some fun

Or just to play together 

Or to help you and I to learn something 

Everyday .

We all need music 

When you hear music 

You do not hurry or worry

There is no greater place to be

Disappointment ?

They will come .

Failures ?

For sure .

Sin , death and hell 

Still seek to do their worst .

But they are no March

He Will Not Turn Away

Forgiveness is a beautiful gift 

In a life of service to the Lord .

It is not a condition for forgiveness ,

However any more than is getting ourselves 

Right in God’s sight before we receive it ,

But once the salve has been applied

To the wounded soul 

God’s healing sets in ,

Restoring us to life in Jesus’ name .

Rejoice to receive the Lord’s forgiveness.

Nothing we have done can hold it at bay .

No sin or shame is so great 

To turn our Lord’s face 

Completely away when ,

In the strength of the Holy Spirit ,

We come to Him .

He will not turn anyone away. .
