It is easy to overlook the deep concern

That Jesus has for the welfare 

For all his listeners .

Jesus knows our needs  

And through God’s power 

For us .

Even in the midst of the seemingly 

Impossible !

Jesus cares and provides .

God calls us to be Christ’s hands and feet 

To transform a meal , a hospital visit ,

A cell phone call , a few hours 

Of volunteering a service  ,

When we offer what we have 

Like a written poem  ,

We can trust Jesus to transform 

It into a gift from God .

My Alley

My alley along side my house reminds me 

Of the path God has laid out for me 

As I walk along my ally .

I come to know God’s unconditional love ,

Peace and guidance .

When I stay ,

I encounter conflict and chaos .

Daily practices like reading scripture ,

Praying and listening for God’s response 

Keeps me walking along God’s alley .

My faith grows stronger 

With each step I take .

I want my Spiritual alley 

To become as well worn 

As my alley beside my house  .

A Lament

A lament offers a map  through grief .

Reality is faced boldly 

And loss felt bravely .

The searing pain is brought to God .

Oh Lord distressed I am .

I feel torment  within .

Only then can he move on to hope .

Only then can the rebuilding start .

It is the same with  me .

When something terrible happens ,

I can not fully heal  

Until I face reality ,

Pour.out my pain

And lean into God’s presence .

Even when God feels far away .

You Told Me to Sing

I know you see the Christmas trees 

All over the world .

You tell me to wipe away the tears .

You are spending Christmas  with Jesus .

I know you love Christmas music 

And it sounds better in heaven .

I know you hear the angels sing .

I know you see the pain in my heart .

I hope you tell Jesus 

How much I love you .

I know you want my heart to be joyful 

And let my Spirit sing .

You are spending Christmas in heaven . I

I know you are walking with the King .

See It Differently

I truly understand how limited I am 

Both in perspective 

And in power .

By aligning with the unlimited source 

Of all , I am beginning to see things 

Differently .

I am becoming more patient , 

More purposeful , more compassionate 

And more peaceful .

Alignment become  more trusting 

And with inspired action 

And leads me on the path of love .

No Quick Fix

There is no quick fix in the struggle 

To change .

It is a journey .

When I walk with Christ 

My individual temptations  may vary ,

My sins separates me  from God 

And makes  me feel alone and ashamed .

When I go to church  I gather 

As a community  of sinners 

And I find encouragement  , accountability 

And a place to feel connected .

Hollow Trees

People I cross paths with every day 

May be like hollow trees 

Even when I call them Smiley .

I am rarely given a chance 

To peer into the hollow 

And offer grace or support .

I am rarely vulnerable 

Enough to reveal my own hurts 

And heartbreak to others 

But as part of God’s love for us all ,

God encourages you and I

To look into the hollows 

In ourselves and others 

And to respond with true love .

A Sense Of Delight

We all have opportunities 

To serve others every day .

When we pray for God to direct our steps 

And open our eyes to ways to serve ,

Our Creator is delighted to answer

Our requests .

We can help an elderly person 

With their groceries 

Or take the time to talk to a lonely friend 

On the phone .

Sometimes you need to try a friend’s 

Phone number more than once 

The say day .

God will know you are trying .

Regardless of how we love others ,

We can experience a small sense of delight 

When we serve others and glorify God .

I Will Make it

A voice in my mind said

You will make it .

Just that simple phrase. 

Soon after,

With much prayer

I would not wish  this sad experience 

On anyone  .

I have a great relationship with God .

I can open myself to God’s Spirit  

And His strength at any time 

Of day or night .

God really did answer me in my time 

Of need .

My Heavenly Father thank you 

For your strength 

And love that sustains me 

In my daily life .

The Peace Of Christ

Despite my insecurities ,

I do have a roof over my head ,

Food to eat ,

Clothes on my back ,

Family and brothers and sisters 

Who love me  

And most important ,

 The love and salvation of Jesus Christ .

While the material aspect of life 

Are important to us 

And to our relationship with God  .

As we go about our life’s journey 

Noting the successes of others ,

We should remember what we have 

And be thankful for the gifts 

God gave us 

Especially the peace of Christ .

Oh To Bury

We have all had to bury somebody 

In a season of hardship and uncertainty  .

In doing so perhaps we yielded the spirit 

Of loss .

But we can find strength in the fact 

That God has the power to revive  ,

Restore , renew and even resurrect  .

In deed God can turn tragedies 

Into triumphs  .

And what we perceive as failure  into freedom  .

Now even if I do not see the beauty 

Of last years lilies  ,

I can not escape their delightful 

Fragrance .

It is the aroma of God 

Who makes all things new  .

It Is In The Way

We often let things get in the way 

Of God’s miraculous work in our lives .

Sometimes we let our crowded lives 

Keep us from being near him .

Sometimes Satan puts a barrier in our way 

That makes it harder for us to stay 

On the clean path God has made for us  .

Sometimes our own lack of faith 

Keeps us from experiencing

The blessing of God .

Thanks to God that He removes all 

The obstacles that keeps us from Him 

By sending His son Jesus to pay the price 

For our sins 

And gives us eternal life with Him .

God speaks to us in many ways .

Sometimes that is through our thoughts 

And feelings ,

But he also works by means 

Of nature , other people or even books .

God directs us via the circumstance

You should be willing to engage 

With those around us .

No matter their back round .

Because of Jesus’ love for us 

We can show love to everyone ,

No matter our similarities or differences .

So let us strive to show others

We are more alike

To have differing opinions .

A love that does asks  ,

No Need For Tears

The Lord cares for us in our grief 

And comforts us as we mourn .

Someday there will be no tears 

Of sorrow 

As we reunite with our loved ones 

In heaven .

But for now I want my tears 

To wash me clean of the bitterness 

That clings to me .

As I witness the world’s suffering .

I believe that God’s promise 

To right all wrong .

One day Jesus will return to cleanse 

The earth ,

Making everything new .

We will witness all of God’s creation

Healed and whole once more .

Pick Rock

Every time  I am asked to assemble 

A transfer for another rock. ,

I am reminded of how God works ,

To meet needs .

When God calls me to share my wealth  ,

Possessions or time with another person .

I witness God answering  prayers .

Not only does my giving bless others ,

But it changes my heart to better 

Understand God’s love .

In giving , I also receive .

In giving I serve the Lord .

I learned never to stop striving 

To be more like Christ .

My weaknesses have proved to me 

That I am human ,

But the grace of Christ

I believe that times of weakness ,

Pain and suffering

 We do not grieve those losses

A Harvest

 

The harvest is always abundant 

Because the Holy Spirit is always busy 

Planting and nurturing  seeds .

We are always needed 

Because there will always 

Be those who are waiting 

To be gathered and carried toward 

The arms  of Christ .

As insignificant as our efforts seem ,

Our daily acts of kindness ,

Faith and justice 

May be just what someone else  

Needs to see .

The presence of God in their lives .

Our work is to invite others 

To encounter Jesus through  us 

And there is nothing small about that .

Anxiety

The stress of these times wear me down  ,

But it has also taught me about God’s 

Power , comfort and strength in new ways .

I have always believed in and talked 

To God on a regular basis ,

But this year has been different .

I have held on to my faith 

Like never before ,praying 

And praising God 

For each new day and praising  God 

For each new day and for blessings 

That have come my way .

Even though my anxiety still remains ,

My relationship with my Creator

Helps me to feel calmer 

And gives me the capacity to think 

About others  .

Because God is with me .

I can set aside the bad feelings 

And work for the good ,

I always remember that it is okey 

To ask God and others for help .

God’s Word

God reminds us that His words are wondrous 

And His thoughts are deep .

His great plan for our lives 

My include unexpected joy 

And opportunities that we would have  

Dreamed of because we tend to focus 

On our own longing and desires  .

In His great wisdom ,

God knows that we need a Savior 

From all of our sinful thoughts , words 

And deeds  .

Our plans never would have included

That such a Savior would die on a cross

For us and rise again .

His words are wondrous  .

Give Thanks

We are to give thanks in all things  .

The sorrow and the joy .

The nights I think about the hurting ,

The people around me 

Who are grieving and scared ,

I let myself rejoice 

In the good too .

I rejoice in all the many victories

The First Step

The first step is rejoicing in the Lord .

Rather than focusing on ourselves .

We turn our eyes to the one 

Who can set us free .

We are not to become captive 

To our anxious thoughts 

But  rather in humbleness ,

To present our cares and concerns 

To God in prayer .

When doing this God offers us  

His freedom through the peace that passes All understanding .

Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving .

He offers us freedom .

While our struggle may still exist ,

Christ cares for us 

And yes set us from captivity 

To thoughts and situations .

The Gift

Jesus is the gift that keeps giving .

We are reminded that God can heal ,

And God can use our brokenness .

I know God blesses  his children 

With His over flowing comfort .

We can comfort others .

In their brokenness as well .

But may allow us to use our gifts 

And  talent to bring 

Healing and comfort to others .

In doing so  ,

We may be the the hands and feet 

Of Jesus to someone in need .

The Pause Button

There is always a good reason 

To ask Jesus to put the pause button 

On his request that we follow 

 As soon as the kids are out of the door   ,

As soon as we retire ,

As soon as things slow down at work  .

May we remember that Jesus is not looking 

For our feeble explanation 

After all ,

He knows all about our busyness already  .

All he is looking for is one word yes  ,

Everything else goes down 

To no and may endanger our hope  

For eternal  life .
