To Restore With Love

I think that to often our tendency to treat 

Others unkind especially when they make a mistake .

We make sure to remind them continuously 

Of their errors .

Even in raising children ,

We tend to emphasize 

The negative than more positive .

I know the Bible teaches love .

Jesus said love your neighbor as your self .

Remember , let us treat others 

The way we want to be treated 

In doing so we all follow the example 

Of Jesus who loves us 

Even thought we do not merit it .

A Quiet Service

When my mom entered the nursing home ,

I knew it was time for her to go there .

I got to observe the many people 

Who care for those who reside there .

They helped my mother 

With morning meals , lunch evening meals .

They gently and carefully feed her

As time went by it got down to

One tiny spoonful at a time .

I believe that their patience and compassion

Sustained her more than anything on her plate .

I observed aids who work for little money 

Yet show love and concern for her

Because she was to weak to care for her self 

And even could not acknowledge their help .

Many people quietly served her day by day 

In obscurity .

Most of the people were great people .

They should be recognized 

For being true heroes to me .

He Will Protect

He will protect you from harm ,

No matter how often trouble may strike 

If you are poor and you have plundered 

With a needy groan ,

He will protect you from those who malign you .

He will keep you out of the hands 

Out of the wicked .

For thy are plotting against you .

Remember , he will always protect you .

Do not try to carry tomorrow's burdens today .

If you do ,

You will stagger under the load and eventually

Do not worry about anything ,

By prayer and supplication with thanksgiving .

Let your request be made known to God .

When my future looks uncertain 

And feel flimsy and even precarious 

And I can not sleep ,

I then go to my secret place .

When I feel the waves of adversity 

Washing over me ,

I go to my secret place .

When I try to figure out the future 

With the many forms of worry ,

It is time for me to go to my secret place 

Where I can lay still with my heart and sleep ,

Where God is my refuge and strength 

And an ever present help with all my troubles .

In my secret place I shell not be afraid .

He will protect my head , my lips and my heart 

There and every where always .

Nobody will ever know how many times 

I go to my quiet secret place to just get away 

From everything 

If it is only for a little while .

True Wisdom

A fool's wisdom always leads 

To a dead end 

But God's wisdom always opens

I Believe

There are days I feel like giving up

I ought to be like my parents

Jesus Is

Some people follow Jesus 

For the miracle He has performed 

And to get their needs met .

Some simply saw him as the carpenter's 

Son and others expected Him to be 

Their political leader .

Some thought of Him as a great teacher 

While others quit following Him 

Because His teaching was hard to understand .

Jesus still does not always meet 

Our expectation of Him .

Yet He is so much more 

Than we can imagine .

He is the provider of eternal life .

He is good and wise 

And He loves forgivers 

And He stays close to us always 

And He brings us comfort .

May we find rest in Jesus 

As He is and keep following Him

And to always believe and trust

A Quiet Awe

My life often feels frenzied 

And hectic , turning cell calls 

And checking my her to do list

And hurt my back .

One day I went out back 

And sat in an old out door chair .

I planned to sit for just a moment or two ,

But in the undistracted  stillness 

I began to notice 

Things that invited me to linger longer .

I could hear the creak of the chair ,

The buzz of  bees

By the the near tree ,

And the flap of a birds wing over head .

The sky was a brilliant blue 

And the clouds moved on by

With the South Dakota wind .

I found myself moved by tears 

In response to all that God had made .

I sat long enough to take 

In these many many wonderful things 

Within my eye sight and a ear shot .

I was humbled by the work of God's hand .

Lost And Found

The Lord does not want 

Our explanation 

And excuses about why 

We turn away from family

And also him ,

Whether it is been a day 

Or a decade  .

We all need to put aside

The deeds of darkness

And put on the armor of light .

This includes turning 

From the sin of God's power 

And choosing to love Him 

And others well .

When we offer a contrite 

Heart and our obedience .

He welcomes us 

With open arms .

All he wants is for his family

To be whole again .

Going To Church

He trembles as he enters 

The church .

He spots an empty pew 

Up near the front and sits down .

He feels the eyes of everyone on him .

He just wants to just turn and leave .

Something deep inside 

Him says do not leave just yet .

The Pastor begins his sermon 

With the words 

Because we all have sinned 

And fallen .

He lets these words sink in 

As he then goes to say 

Because God so loves the world ,

Remember , He sent us Jesus .

Who took our imperfection 

And exchanged it for His perfection 

Through His sacrifice .

He has won the forgiveness 

Of all sins yours and mine .

I am in God's house 

I love him and I feel more than fine .

The Lord is good .

His love and faithfulness

The Comfort And Promises

How many times has God said 

Look at the comfort of my my promises ?

I do not have the time to study the Bible  .

God said talk to me .

I have so much to give you .

God tells me when I do the right things 

I will get blessed then

And they will be stored up treasures

But sometimes I go and waste my time 

Doing other things !

Have I reached up and pulled the blinders

Down over my eyes ?

God has surrounded us with many assurances

A birthday celebration 

Will make people think 

And to take stock of life .

We need to number our days 

That we may gain 

A heart of wisdom .

How and if we have grown 

In God's grace ?

So that our lives are more pleasing

I will ask a child to do something .

We often miss God's blessings  

In our lives simply because

We fail to notice them .

In times of difficulty , business

 Or stress we may focus 

On the tasks we must complete

Of supportive friends .

The smile of a loving 

Grandchild even before I

The Aroma

The senses awaken to the lowing 

Of the cows as I run by .

As beautiful as the surrounding 

Are along my favorite trail

The odor of a skunk .

The rank , strong and often lasting 

For days is common .

I even think about the dog Jake !

As I pass through a skunk patch ,

I wounder about the fragrance 

That I leave behind in my daily 

Interaction with others .

I know God spreads his fragrance 

Every where .

As my nose winched at the smell 

Of the skunk ,

I have to wounder about the times

When I might have hung 

On to anger and bitterness
to long .

Have I caused others to turn 

Their noses at Christianity 

Because my spirit stinks ?

I try to have the fragrance

Weasel Words

A term derived from the way

Weasels will eat eggs 

From other animal nests .

They will sneak out the eggs 

Make a small holes in them .

They will suck out the insides 

Of them and then put

The hollow eggs back into the nests .

It looks good but they are empty .

God does not use weasel words ever .

He uses His words of truth .

Through His law , our self-righteousness 

Is sucked out of our heart 

Leaving us hollow with the guilt 

Of our sins and justly condemned to hell .

But God does not leave us 

In our emptiness .

Instead He sends us Jesus .

A Target Fixture

You will face an unexpected 

Obstacle from time to time .

Do not be afraid .

Let the water teem with abundance

A Sleepless Night

Sleep is essential for me .

I struggle to set a decent nights rest .

I have many reasons for not sleeping .

As I sit outside tonight

The night sky was ablaze

It always amazes me the way

Jesus invites us to follow him .

I need to be brave .

It can be costly and it can hurt .

Still Jesus says to follow .

Following might be dangerous 

But I must be brave .

I know now that though the risk 

Of acting on my faith are often high ,

The Lord Cares

The  Lord cares for the helpless .

He will heal us and love us without limits 

So now faith , hope and love abide 

These three and the greatest is love .

Yes , we know your unfailing love will comfort us .

God's promise is sure 

And we are safe in your care .

You will help all your children 

Their burdens to bear .

Your love is like the blue sky 

Into which we will see clearly

Keep Running

I persevere running the race 

That always lies before me

While keeping my eyes on Jesus .

We each run a unique

And discouraged at times

God's Love

Our value in the eyes of others

Can vary depending on our usefulness

To them at a particular moment in time .

Fortunately our value to God never changes .

We are always beloved in God's eyes 

And God is always there for us 

No matter what challenges

Or difficulties we face .

God does not love us

More when things are going well

And we are obedient to God's direction ,

God does not love us less 

When times are hard

And we stray from God's teaching .

Fear

The midnight rain is hitting the window pane .

I feel the pain that is in heart .

The fence in my mind has been locked up

Good and tight 

And I have no dreams only fear 

That is inside me tonight .

The dreams have all faded away 

I know I should activate faith not fear .

I should never agree with fear 

When I can not sleep .

Fear does cause limits inside me .

I need to look at fear straight in the eye .

I know not to let fear dominate my life .

I need to remember fear is like fog

It will go away .

I know I need to let it go 

So I can sleep tonight .

I need to remember , the most 

Persistent choice I must face 

Every day and night 

Is whether to trust God

Or worry and fear .

Love Is

Love is not easy to come by 

Much less display day in day out .

Like its partners of faith and hope ,

Love must be renewed ,

In us continually , not by force of will

Or fervent study or bold action 

But by the grace of God .

You have to see what love really is 

Not so we can grasp and possess it ,

But so that we can recognize , 

Strive after and appreciate it 

When it does show up in our lives .

Your destiny is set up by God .

You are not here by accident .

God put you here  .

Nothing you do can 

Snatch you out of God's hands .

God knows how to make things happen .

God can turn anything around .

God's plan can not be stopped .

God knows when we need a push .

You meed to keep moving forward 

For God knows your destiny .

Yes you are a person of destiny .

God put a blessing on you 

For you are a masterpiece .

Sharing The Love

Love is everything .

We are asked to share the love of Christ

With others in our world .

At times our relationships 

Will be messy at times .

We know blaming 

Is not attractive or productive .

The better path is  first to pray ,

And then patience and then to practice  

What Christ has taught us .

We need to love them all 

Even when they are the most unlovable .

We all need to know 

When anyone makes a mistake ,

God still loves us

And everyone's destiny .

The Present Light

Where I lived we would frequent

Power outage .

My mom would know where the flashlights 

Where when the power would go out  

In our house .

That is what a mother does 

Protect her children .

Just as my eyes were beginning

To a just to the darkness ,

I saw a light it was my mom standing 

Right in front of me with a flashlight .

I had absolutely nothing to worry about .

I remember a time in my life when by the light 

Of God He walked through darkness .

Just as I trusted my mom to bring 

Me a flashlight ,

I can trust God to light up any 

Darkness in my life 

And to direct my path .

Bet On Football

The time is coming when I 

Will not endure sound teaching .

I have itching ears to suit my passion .

As a coach who never got paid !

I know , I would rather go on living 

Comfortable in sin ,

My ears are itching for things 

To suit my desire .

I try to turn a blind eye to sin

And after the big game win or lose ,

I will then seek forgiveness from God then .

I remember my grandma telling me 

I can always pray

But not on bingo or any kind of sport events 

Because you can not always win .

For only God is in control 

And I know what that means .

I Am A Pit Stop

Our child is our universe 

It always tries to lead us

To great things ,

But as the child grows

And set its sights ,

It is up to us to steer 

The child up the right

Direction 

Until they reach maturity .

As a dad I must endear their youth 

And I must have patience along the way .

I know , no trouble I face with the child 

Is a problem for God

That is why I pray .

As a dad I love our child every day ,

But I am truly just a pit stop to mommy

God needs your agreement first .

Jesus views family in his own way .

Those who will do God's will 

Are our brothers and sisters .

I like how Jesus defined it so broadly .

It never is just our blood relatives .

To be truthful our brothers and sisters 

Do include the people who are forgiving ,

People who put others first ,

People who show compassion

And mercy every day .

Doing God's will binds us all together 

As a big family .

A Cold Jan. Day

Today , I am sad and cold and blue 

And a little despondent about some things .

I brace my self and remind 

My self how cold it really is inside 

And outside me 

And what I can not do today !

The sun is not really shining .

The comfort is only 

That I am home inside 

With my family

True grace .

Before I Sleep

When my mind wanders 

From time tao time like it does at night .

I lasso those thoughts the best way 

I can and bring them to Him ,

Like any questions or doubts 

That I have I always talk to God

And let Him handle them all always ,

Because I trust and believe

Will be unmasked in front of God ,
