The Trash

It can become easy to become 

Accustomed to our wrongdoing .

When our sins and wrongdoing

Make us uncomfortable ,

We become disgusted .

However doing nothing 

About them seems to lessen 

Its impact on our conscience .
In the end we become accustomed 

To living with them 

Or spend the rest of our lives 

Complaining about them .

We become convinced that we 

Can not confront them .

The assessment we are told 

Is that it is the time 

To take out the trash 

And clutter from our hearts 

And to seek refuge in Christ ,

Who can redeem us 

From our sins and wrongdoing 

And refresh our spirits .

When I cry out and give God 

All of my worries ,

My prayers take on a powerful

In life like the stem of a plant ,

Heavy burdens like financial problems ,

Health issues and other concerns

Even in our old age and our gray hairs .

Today

Today I will set down my burdens 

So I can welcome God's strength .

I had prayed for strength ,

But had something else in mind .

Sometimes receiving God's provision 

Requiring a sacrifice on my part 

Like giving up my pride in self reliance .

This sacrifice is not for God's benefit 

But for my own .

When I am no longer distracted ,

Burdened with guilt , full of pride ,

My ears and heart are more open to God .

Then I am free to sense God's message 

In the words of a song ,

We all see God's plan in the order of nature 

Or feel an unexplained peace 

Deep within me during my crisis .

That One Embrace

One night when my dad was real sick

I went to his bed and gave him a hug 

And held on for a real long time .

I was 14 and told him I loved him 

And we would go pheasant hunting 

And I think tears came down his cheeks .

I did not know the pain and depression

He was going through .

I think our embrace will always stay with me .

For the past 2 years 

I ask Sawyer to give me a hug every day

Or once a night if he is with us .

If he forgets I get to give him a roasting ear !!!!!!!

When he gives me a hug 

I think about my father 

And when I do give Sawyer a roastIng ear 

I think about uncle Jimmy .

The Lord gives wisdom

I have been intrigued by the number 1 .

By it self it is weak and powerless  .

When it is multiplied by it self 

It keeps the same value  .

But in its relationship with other numbers ,

It becomes powerful .

One vote can make all the difference

The Last Place

When I helped my uncle find something ,

He would tell me it would be the last place 

I would look that I would find it .

I thought that was a hilarious observation .

But where do you look when you lose courage ,

Hope or direction ?

Where do you look when you lose ourselves 

In times of need ?

Seeking relief we may turn to alcohol , drugs 

Or other unhealthy behaviors ,

Which never helps us find anything good .

Remember , in our most trying times 

We can look to God first for help and solace .

God can restore , renew , replenish us .

We all need to pray to truly find anything .

In these difficult days ,

I realized that God loves me

Can You See

I try to live faithfully each day .

When I am going through trials ,

It can be hard to see God 

At work in the situation .

My eyes can be so focused 

On my need that I do not see ,

An answer or the way through my struggles .

God's work in my life reassures me 

That God is present even thought 

I can not see past the obstructions

That are blocking my view .

Jesus has made it clear 

That his mission on earth

What Is Best

At times when I would ask God 

For something and not get it 

Within my time frame ,

I would cry .

Still my tears do not make God give me

What I cried for .

Eventually I realized as a good father ,

God will discipline me so that I can grow .

God was not denying me love by 

Withholding certain things for me .

By not giving me what I wanted ,

God may have been protecting me 

Or helping me grow and mature .

When our desires and tears are for 

What is not best ,

God will help us not to destroy 

Ourselves with these misguided desires 

But instead to make better choices .

God loves us and wants only the best for us .

Jesus We Need You

As sinners we are prone to make excuses 

For our behavior ,

Labeling some wrong doing as not so bad ,

Or thinking that if everybody else is engaging 

In a questionable activity then it must be okay .

We should not dabble in the darkness 

Or compromise with evil in any way .

When we walk in the light of the Lord ,

No protest , no flashlights will be necessary ,

For Jesus is our salvation and illumination .

Just How Much

The best cooks in the world 

Was my grandma and my mom .

They could cook without measuring .

It is a pinch or a handful or a splash !

They knew the right amount of each ingredient ,

Or just a little more .

How much of the Holy Spirit 

Does God pour into a life ?

A teaspoon , a pinch , a cup ?

The Spirit is given without measure .

God , does not parcel out the Spirit 

But gives it to us abundantly .

The Spirit does not spoil .

This is not a game to be played on Sundays .

God's gift to us are beyond words

And anyone's capacity to measure .

Jesus had a mission .

We have a mission .

Jesus said I can do nothing on my own .
I seek to do not my own will but the will of him

He remained focused on the work God gave him .

Like Jesus , we are all on assignment .

If we do not know our assignment ,

We can ask and God will guide us .

Sometimes my pain will take over .

I look to God to fill my spirit

Imagine a little child climbing

We all long to feel the touch 

From God .

The closeness of God ,
