A Snowstorm

A snowstorm blew into town ,

It brought rattling windows ,

It blew leaves and causing of restlessness .

I sat and looked out the big window 

Watched the swirling of the snow 

And I noticed that my green bird feeder 

Was being tossed by the wind .

I felt a little like that like hanging 

On and in a way being rocked by the snowstorm .

I did notice 2 birds eating 

At the bottom of the feeder .

In spite of all the swaying 

The 2 birds were calm .

I felt God saying to me 

I am with these birds 

Who are protected from the wind 

And I have been with you protecting 

You in this storm of grief .

I have feed you with love , peace ,

Guidance and my presence .

I will never leave you or forsake you .

Whether in joy or in sorrow , 

You are never alone .

Pleasures Forevermore

When I sit outside with my loved ones at night ,

We can look up at the sky 

And see planets . stars and galaxies .

I have been able to show my daughter and grandson

A few constellations .

One night I showed them the Milky Way .

My grandson was awestruck .

It was as if someone had hurled a bucket 

Of glitter into the night sky .

My grandson had never seen such a sight before .

When I am surrounded by 

The world's clutter and noise ,

I look up into the sky 

And give God a quick quiet glance 

When I look up into the sky ,

I see God's glory in all its magnificence .

I feel God's presence and peace 

And once again I am awestruck .

Anytime I pray I am powerfully 

Aware that I am in the presence of God .

We can go our separate ways 

But we will have memories

Have those special moments

Winter Storm

In winter I often wake 

To the beautiful surprise 

Of a ground blanketed 

In the peace and quiet 

Of an early morning snow .

Oh the winter snow falling softly 

Outside my window .

And surprised even the angels .

The unassuming way Jesus entered 

The world was fore shadowed 

By the coming of the Savior 

Who did not shout or cry out .

He came gently in order 

To draw us to Himself

An Encounter

Christmas excitement is in the air .

We may be scrambling to buy

Last minute gifts 

To ice gingerbread cookies 

Or to wash the china reserved 

For festive occasions.

'The air is electric as we anticipate 

Visiting from those we love

Whether planned or unexpected ,

Short or lengthy .

Each is a divine encounter .

Each person we receive is worthy 

And consecrated 

A tabernacle of love that carries

A Christmas Tree

Love is like a Christmas tree .

It has to have roots 

And decorations and bright lights 

So we can feel and see the beauty

A little time spent with God 

Proves an asset along life's way .

A Christmas Memory

Santa had to stop at Dr Coss's on Christmas Eve .

He had to get ready to sing .

He had to get some peppermint snops  for his cough 

And also for his friend Shorty .

They did not get a DWI .

They sang at Midnight Mass.

They sang praises to His Holy name .

They were truly relaxed 

But Shorty seemed to drag along .

Santa would sing 

The Sweetest Story Told .

Santa could truly relax when he sang 

That special song .

When he came home after mass

He was so relaxed .

He made every child happy 

With his laugh

And he called each one Smiley 

And my Santa had big smiling blue eyes .

Standing Firm

When a person made fun of me 

Because I am different 

And my knocking knees 

And my shaky voice 

And I cried as I walked away .

I was crushed .

It is strange how self pity 

Can become a comfortable habit .

It can keep me from learning ,

Growing and continuing to do good thankfully .

Little by little God helped me to regain 

My confidence around the people 

Who made fun of me .

They never think they hurt me at all 

Because they think they are bigger than me .

I learned that allowing self pity 

To dictate my action is not a faithful response

To challenges .

Remember , they will receive the life God had promised 

To those who love Him as their reward .

Remember , though I have been suffering 

I believe I am loved and blessed as a child of God ,

Hope against hope ,

It is like in hope

When ever I find myself 

Overwhelmed by busyness ,

I know Jesus took time away 

From all the crowds 

To be along with God .

When I am overwhelmed 

I sometimes go for a run

To be with God

I then feel refreshed , strengthen and refocused .

Even now and then 

It is delightful to have the kind of laugh 

That makes your stomach jiggle 

That sends tears down your face 

And causes your eyes to squint 

So it is impossible to see .

Laughter is God's medicine 

The most beautiful therapy

Laughter is the shortest of distance 

Between two people .

There can never be enough

I went to Midnight Mass .

I heard you singing

I turned to see your face .

What is a friend ?

A friend can be a person or a dog

It is the most glorious time of year .

Do you know anything about time frame ?

Steadfast Love

My mom would call me out as I slammed

The door on my way to school .

She would say have a good day and I love you .

I would turn back and say bye .

I did not notice the words .

Nevertheless my mom's love remained steadfast .

When I was a child I sometimes 

Took mom's love for granted .

Sometimes now I do the same thing 

With my Father's love .

I forget to listen to God and respond .

I forget to be grateful .

I know that God's love for me remains steadfast .

It is the reality that provides a sure foundation 

For all my life .

You feel not good enough  .

People will tell you shame on you .

You may have made a mistake .

God's Time

As a child time never seems to move .

As I got older time just kept moving 

On a little faster .

As I got older and my age kept adding up

The time seemed to just fly by .

As I am here today ,

Nobody is here long enough for me ,

Because of their busy time .

As I look into my mirror 

My face reflected lines of fear

And worry .

Oh the strain of care

For my loved ones .

I went outside and I saw

A snow white cloud passed overhead .

Some of my care seemed to be erased .

As I went for a run I held on .

Then I let myself go .

Christmas Memories

It has been years 

But there are memories 

Of a time and a place I call home .

I remember back when we all

Went to Midnight Mass .

All the family and some friends 

Would gather after mass at mom's house 

And most of us ate oyster stew 

And some had soap 

And some had beer and some drank coffee .

We all watched the little ones run around 

And get excited opening presents past 1 A.M.

Nobody wanted to go to sleep .

Oh those memories when Jesus was born .

Move To The Rear

Grandparents move to the rear 

Over Christmas 

And when they pray and worry

And when grandparents can not sleep 

They count their blessings .

There is no hurry 

To get up early Christmas morning .

We know with Jesus at Christmas

We are not alone .

We do not need to reach out 

To pull our grandchild to his feet 

And set him up right 

And steady his little frame 

And give him emotional support 

And comfort ,

Because he will be with his mommy 

Christmas morning .

His grandparents know God is pleased

For what we give our grandchild when we can 

If not right now 

But when needed .

But right now this time is for us .

Our job is to love our grandchild 

And everyone without stopping 

Not to inquire whether or not 

If they are worthy ?

I hear the merry sounds of joy

And some people not believe that she

You the peace and patience you needed .

As you pray you will find comfort 

And strength from your relationship with Him .

Many of us have earnest , persistent prayers 

That seem to go unanswered .

We can be assured that God 

Does care and He does hear

All our requests .

He does urge us to continue 

To walk closely with Him 

Being joyful in hope and patient

In affliction faithful in prayer .

Batteries Included

As a child I celebrated birthdays 

And Christmas with gifts 

Opening them with joy and excitement

And great zeal ,

Tearing open boxes ripping through 

Wrapping paper and turning gift bags upside down 

With those labeled batteries included .

A very precious gift for me today is today .

It comes filled and ready to enjoy 

By yourself and your relatives and friends too .

Remember , the Lord has made the day

And encourages people to celebrate each day

With joy and gladness .

Is for all people in all times .

The Lord has placed inside 

Each day all that is needed 

For enjoyment and spiritual growth .

No batteries or assembly is needed 

To appreciate this gift .

So often we miss the joy of today 

Because we are preoccupied 

With plans for tomorrow .

How different life would be 

If we with child like zeal 

Turn the gift of today 

Upside down to get everything out !

Start each day by giving thanks 

For at least 3 things .

Knowing that gratitude  opens 

Our heart to find encouragement 

In God's goodness .

Then when we call on the Lord

The Spirit

The Spirit is a constant helper .

Jesus knew His followers 

Would need support after 

He left this earth .

The Spirit provide us 

With internal help from God .

The Spirit would be a moment

And guide who would not only

What we could not handle on our own 

Or in any moment of struggle .

The Spirit reminds us of everything

Crying Out Loud Inside

When you continue to ask in prayer

And never give up but continue 

To ask in prayer with faith God will answer .

The grief of losing a loved one 

Can not be adequately expressed 

With human words or trite phrases .

The sadness can not sufficiently 

Or successfully treated with drugs 

Or alcohol .

It may fade in intensity  ,

But it never really goes away completely .

Remember , when you keep praying 

With your crying inside for no one to see 

Your grief will meet its end 

In Him  who promised ,

"I am the resurrection and the life,"

To acknowledge or unacknowledged

That God is here .

You need to press on for God is here

God is truly near 

And at work in our lives 

In both the joys and the struggles .

God does understands .

If you do not have it all together be real .

God is waiting for you 

To open up and be honest with him .

And so many things you do not understand 

And with a lot of things spinning in your mind

Oh the motivation to give 

Is what makes a gift 

Of any size or amount acceptable .

We give generously because the Lord 

Has given bountifully to us .

Our cup indeed overflows with blessings 

And gifts too numerous to count .

The greatest Giver of all good things 

Exemplifies holy giving 

In the gift that keeps giving .

Remember Christ does not give us Himself 

Out of begrudging obligation 

Or legislation or divine or otherwise 

But because of His great love and grace .

Sometimes we may feel abandoned 

And alone in our struggles .

How comforting it is to know 

That God is in fact watching

We know that today our lives

In addition to this future hope .

Not only do we have the hope 

Of a glorious future to look forward to 

But we also are promised

I'm A Believer

I am a believer whether 

I am sleeping , unconscious ,

In a coma or suffering 

From any other mental  ,

Emotional or physical handicap .

Even though I am a believer sometimes ,

I am unresponsive , uncommunicative 

Or seemingly oblivious to the surrounding ,

I still beat inside a heart of faith .

As I focus my mind and heart on Jesus ,

I find Him shaping me 

Including how I pray .

He enables me to give

The gift of true intercession 

To friends , family members 

And even strangers .

The Open Door

Do not be afraid to open a door .

God has so much to show you .

God opens your eyes 

And your heart so open the door  .

Sometimes following God through 

The door may mean a difficult 

Conversation sometimes .

God helps you to let go of anything 

That would keep you from following 

Him through the open door .

We will direct your steps .

Love brings us all together .

There may even be a push 

Through the door for your purpose .

When you push open the door ,

You may even help out those

Who are most in need 

Remember this on any holiday 

Or any day 

So open as many doors as you can 

To help your fellow man .

Remember , when you smile 

God smiles ,

When you wink 

God winks 

And everyone is happy 

When you open the door 

Even if you call someone 

At any age smiley !

Every Moment Matters

The hardest part of getting old 

Is watching everyone else move on 

And leave me  and all the highways 

 I travel be myself seem longer .

What keeps me going is Christ .

I get to talk to him .

I have work to do .

On my good days 

I get to talk to the people here

About Jesus .

Oh the bad days 

I can pray .

The time we are here on earth 

Matters to God .

Every breath I take is an opportunity 

To serve and glorify God .

A christen like me can hold on

To the promise of permanent joy 

In the company of God .

In my live God fills all my moments

With significance .

I learn all this over time 

Because I am getting older these days  .

My Hiding Place

When I struggle with problems

And I do not know what to do 

And have no one to talk to ,

I seek a quiet place so I can

Take all my concerns to God .

There I sit down and pray .

I talk with God about all that happened 

And ask for wisdom and guidance .

My heart is filled with fear and worry 

But in my quiet place ,

I feel calm as God's presence 

Fills my heart .

I know my Lord will never leave me alone .

In my quiet place I pray , read the bible .

After getting older and time goes by .

I know God is my hiding place .

Strings

When you are first married

You have given piano strings 

After being married 30 years 

The strings are like steel strings .

But there are God's strings 

And they are all one of a kind .

God is behind the scene 

Pulling the strings .

He will direct your steps .

He knows how to pull the strings .

You do not need 

To be stressed out .

He has stings on everything you do .

There are always strings on you .

There will always be twist and turns 

But God will pull you in the right direction .

God has a string on everyone 

You know and love .

We all are in God's hands .

Nothing will stop your purpose 

With God .

Thank God for the special strings 

Every day not just on Thanksgiving Day .

People

All people smile in the same language .

The only way on earth to multiply 

Happiness is for people to share it .

A man's mind is like a car 

If it gets to knocking around ,

He better have it overhauled 

Or change it .

One of the best things a man 

Can have up his sleeve is a funny bone .

Never miss an opportunity 

To make others happy ,

Even if you have to let them alone

To do it .

We must be willing to pay 

A price for freedom 

For no price that is ever asked  for

It is half the cost of doing without it .

Joy is not in things .

It is in us .

Happiness is a thing to be practiced 

Like a violin .

Remember , our joys are our wings 

that fly high .

Our sorrow are our pheasant spurs .

Happiness is the only thing we can give 

Without having .

The Touch

Have you ever felt like

Your living outside 

Your community  ?

You may have many infectious 

Diseases .

If someone touches you on a bad day 

And the tears stream 

Down your face ,

They are tears of Joy . 

The person who touches you has compassion 

And reminds you that you are accepted .

That gentle touch does convey dignity and value .

The simple healing power

Of a human touch goes a long way

To remind a hurting person of their care and concern for you .

Remember , in failing strength 

You can continually draw from God 's ever present 

And unlimited supply to keep your live spiritually refreshed

The Price For Life

I thank we should honor those

Who have served

In the armed forces to defend 

Our nation and the freedoms 

We hold so dear .

Sometimes thank you seems

Inadequate to properly convey

The deep appreciation 

We have for their service .

Sometimes when we abuse our right , 

Take them for granted 

Or attempt to rob others of them 

We do a dishonor to our veterans .

When we show disrespect to people ,

We contradict what the brave solders 

Have fought to protect 

And we even dishonor the Lord 

Who gave life to all .

What A Day

I started today running 

To just get away .

I also prayed as I went along .

I did not pray for my needs .

I pray for a fresh start 

And new memories .

I am thankful for my family 

And thank God for a safe neighborhood .

I thank God for meeting my needs so far .

I thank God for hope .

I never run out of blessings 

For I am thankful 

For what began as a day of discouragement 

Became a joyful day 

Simply because I obey

God's command by giving thanks in every 

Situation that comes to me today .
