Gratitude

Someone may say that I 

Am old and discontented .

I feel I do not lack imagination 

But may be the energy 

But I do keep up with my grandson .

I may have a problem 

With gratitude for his sweet presence 

And for the lord's grace to provide him

For me these days .

I know I should thank the Lord 

And ask Him for His help

We are to run a good race

They live to listen , to pray , to forgive ,

The Power Of Prayer

When each of your children 

Take a different journey in life 

It has taught me quite a bit

God never falls asleep at his post .

He is always keeping watch over us .

A mother and fathers

A second chance can transform

Take a moment and ponder the joy 

That God has a gift in giving to God's children .

All too often our delight in God's gifts 

To us seems to be subdued .

Rather than reflecting God's joy

Always In The Stands

When he was in school his father and mother 

Attended all of his activities football games , 

Basketball games .

Their support for student athletes 

Continued for many year .

I think they went to all those activities 

For the kids whose parents did not show up .

The kids could always count on those 2 

To be in the stands 

So the kids have support from someone .

Those 2 showed up to show support ,

Love and hope and the kids 

Who played school activities 

Or summer sports are never alone .

They were coaches who never got paid !

But they would not do it any other way .

Jesus has shown us that our relationship

It disrupted my run and what I was thinking .

When spending time along side alcoholics ,

By society's standards ,

They are failures and outcasts 

And weak , broken and ashamed .

As they share their stories ,

They will see others give comfort 

And encouragement .

They offer kind words , a touch 

Or silent acceptance

No one will give advice 

And no one will condemn .

No one will judge 

Or act better than anyone else .

A Matter Of Conscience

God has placed in each of us 

A kind of moral indicator ,

Which we call conscience .

It passes judgment on our thoughts 

And action according to the standards 

God built into it .

Conscience is like an alarm clock .

The alarm awaken us 

But we can ignore it keep sleeping .

our conscience troubles us 

If we cheat , lie , gossip , steal

And when conscience rings the alarm 

It is time to quit 

When we are doing .

If we repeat the wrong often ,

We may become deaf 

To the sound of the alarm .

The spiritual faith alarm 

Will spring into our consciousness 

And we will be made whole and perfect .

In our struggles there is strength

We can not successfully complete life

A moment of gratitude in observing 

A troublesome teenager or an older person

It is much easier to point fingers 

Or expect someone to take action

You know our life begins 

When we are born again 

In Baptism .

I measure out my life

It goes without saying 

That trusting does not come easy 

For all of us .

Trusting in God does not guarantee

Do not be afraid to console

Someone who is hurting 

and feeling lonely .

Be kind by loaning 

Someone your strength

Them of their weakness .

When someone is on their knees 

Get down on your knees .

Our faith journey will be demanding .

Although it is not always easy or appealing .

You will learn , over and over again ,

That when you relinquish control ,

You will experience great freedom and joy .

You may want to dictate how people

You should inevitable experience

The addicts sobriety is not complete

Until it is shared with others .

This principle is true for all of us .

If we live only for ourselves ,

We will shrivel up and die .

When we give of ourselves 

In every walk of life ,

Our true meaning is found 

In a loving gift of self .

Falls to the ground and dies ,

It produces much fruit .

As a child I questioned  the existence of God .

But my mother and dad and grandma 

Said you must have faith .

The seeds of faith were sown inside me .

With my trouble or my situation 

I need those early seeds of faith to grow

I know I am getting older

What can you learn ?

Family , neighbors , friends , colleagues

In varying degrees of needs .

Should we look for money in

A parking lot for a friend .

Our ability to help them ,

But not always .r

Whatever you have a hug ,

A kind word , a listening ear

Like my dad and my grandma's ears .

Christ does not clobber us .

Instead , he always leaves us

Fear is humanity's most deadly enemy .

Where do we obtain knowledge today ?

Is gaining wisdom even a priority 

For most citizens of the 21 century ?

We might ask who is wise ?

Elderly people used to be consulted

But all over the world ,

Maybe we would really rather

Not be challenged in our ways 

Of thinking and behaving ,

Yet we are clearly making mistakes 

As a societies and as individuals ,

To help us live smarter and more intentional lives .

We are troubled by many things ,

Time reliably teaches us 

That all is not in our hands ,

The power to transform

I know that no season is terminal 

The tantrums do not last forever  ,

Neither does the innocence of youth .

Like sitting up with a sick child 

Or waiting for a teenager to come home 

Or helping some drunk .

I know people can change .

I have changed .

God Is Amazing

God has done amazing works in the course of history ,

Such as the parting of the water of the Red Sea .

He also does amazing work 

In each of our personal lives ,

As a friend you need to make time

Stewardship , suffering , temptation ,

I regularly remind myself 

Of then motto God is good all the time .

It is easy to forget it during times of distress .

When we remember that God is always by our side ,

We can stop focusing on small issues

Good Dreams

 

Each night before bed 

I pray for good dreams .

I believe God gives us good dreams 

And good thoughts each night .

When I drew on things at night 

That are not productive or worth while

Still I hesitate to turn my concerns 

And worries over to Jesus .

I need to remember to place my worrisome 

Thoughts in the hands of Jesus ,

Trading them for peace 

So that I can have a good nights dream .

Remember that Jesus may use it to teach you

Who among us does not occasionally 

Feel battered , bruised and broken ?

Sometimes it is because of something 

We have done to ourselves .

But because of the Lord is the God 

Of restoration and forgiveness ,

Who turn to Him 

And those who do , find safety in His arms .

A Hunters Excuse

I got to get a new gun 

Because the old gun is bent .

My partner sneezed .

I got warm beer .

Oh the deer moved .

The pheasant was to far away .

I can not see thru the fog .

That darn tree jumped

In front of me .

It is to cold .

This is the wrong spot .

The pickup broke down .

These are just some of the hunter's excuses !

For a master hunter like me !!!!

When I Sit Outside

I am fascinated by the wonders

Of the natural world ,

The delicate structure of one leaf ,

A rainstorm with loud claps 

Of thunder and the flashes of light .

The way ants march along my patio 

To an unknown destination .

I enjoy listening to the variety 

Of sounds made by the birds 

That fly by

And how they sing melodies 

To one another .

When I pause a moment to notice

All of the life around me .

I am owed by God's creative power .

In All Circumstances

I have a sense of confidence 

That all will be well .

I can say , yea though I walk

Through the valley of the shadow of death ,

I will fear no evil 

For thou are with me .

I may have some bad circumstances 

To handle these days .

I will not be afraid 

Or terrified because of them .

My Lord my God goes with me 

And He will never leave me 

Nor forsake me .

Take It To Him

When I take my trouble 

To the Lord ,

I cry out to Him 

And He will answer my prayer .

When I ask I must believe 

And have no doubt ,

Because with doubt it is like a wave

Of the sea ,

Blown and tossed by the wind .

But when I  have no doubt about God ,

The waves will be like God's glorious grace ,

Rushing in again and again .

I know prayer , in many ways 

Is the supreme expression of faith in God .
