God's Embrace

God's hand is a loving one 

That reaches out to embrace 

In love .

I believe the hand of God has touched me 

As a loving parent .

I would never wish suffering

Christian encouragement is not based

As children of a fallen world ,

We are prone to play with friends .

A mixed up game 

A game of hide and seek 

Between God and us .

Of pretending to hide

Grandma

Grandma I have a problem 

At this point I know I have 

An opportunity for God to help find 

The solution .

Problems do indeed arise ,

Seemingly every day .

The choice of how we handle 

The problem is ours .

We can either allow fear 

To well up on the inside 

Or we can take our problems  

To the Lord .

The sooner we turn it over to God ,

The sooner we all feel God's peace .

I remember whenever I told my grandma 

My problem ,

She always said with a rosary in her hand 

That she would pray for me 

And I had to trust and believe in the Lord .

I Am Getting Older

When I look into the mirror ,

I notice the inevitable signs of aging .

Everyone will always be looking at me .

I know God is more interested

In what is in my heart 

Not how I look no matter my age .

I serve a God who loves me 

For what is inside 

And He wants me to love myself .

When I focus on what God loves in me ,

I will find true joy .

No one is truly ageless .

All of us but God 

Will perish one day .

What is on the inside 

Will shine 

Before others as we share 

Christ with them 

And that same spirit will carry us

Into eternal life .

Lukewarm

We may own a new Bible 

But not read it .

We may go to church every Sunday 

But just sit there 

Expecting the choir ,

Liturgists and father

To put in all the effort 

For us .

Scripture tells us that we are 

Not to be lukewarm in faith .

Our walk with God 

Is an active process

And requires times , attention 

And full participation .

Others can not do the work for us .

Rather than being lukewarm 

We need to be fully invested 

In our quest to be more like Jesus .

The rewards are immense and eternal .

To Find Rest

My dad would lay in bed at home .

Struggling with sever pain ,

As the cancer cells spread through his body ,

We would talk about fishing and hunting .

And even then he enjoyed singing to me .

He always prayed for me 

And the family .

He always told me to pray to Jesus 

When I am weary 

And always lean on Jesus to rest 

Because he always did .

He could remain calm and sing 

Even when he passed his deepest darkness 

Such a faithful witness 

Was the result of is his experience 

Of leaning on Jesus .

His life and death continue 

To give hope to me even today .

Pray For Others

How often do we take the time 

In our busy live to pray 

For those in authority  .

How often do we ask God 

To change their hearts to do things 

According to His Word ?

The truth is , we falter in our prayers .

We are quick to complain 

To our rulers 

Than pray for their  deliverance

And hope for help 

As we stumble to pray ,

Christ never stops interceding 

For his church .

When we falter 

Christ does not .

He continues to keep us

Why do bad things happen 

To good people ?

The old question 

Does not have any new answers .

It is tempting to rationalize 

That the presence of trouble 

Means the absence of God .

The Scripture counters such notions .

The Lord is always with us .

He is present when our circumstances

And we find comfort in His character .

He is always good . loving and trust worthy .

Oh To Feel Good

I need time and a prayer .

I feel like a skunk 

That has fresh tire tracks 

Running down my back .

Lord teach me how to be

Shrewd as a serpent  

And as gentle as a dove .

I need strength for today .

For whatever I face .

You tell me I can handle

Whatever is before me .

Communication

At times I feel like I am unable to communicate 

And express my heart when I pray to my father  .

I sometimes struggle sometimes with prayer .

I know the Spirit helps me with my weakness .

The Spirit will intercede for me 

Through wordless groans like mine .

The Spirit will intercede for all God's people 

In accordance with the will of God .

Oh how amazing is the gift of the Holy Spirit .

The Spirit clearly communicates

My thoughts and desires 

In harmony with the Father's purpose ,

The work of the Spirit makes prayers work .

Encouragement

One day I was nudged by God 

To focus on encouraging others .

That day God sent some people 

My way who need encouragement .

As far as I could tell,

I did not make a huge difference 

In anyone's life .

It could be that someone's life 

Was changed and I did not know about it .

I did learn that people do appreciate 

And are strengthened by the words of encouragement .

I learn that each of us 

Is encouraged as we encourage others .

God Listens

When we are going through 

Times of questioning ,

God is always listening .

I know my child .

Respect and obey the Lord .

It is the fist step of wisdom 

And good sense .

The Lord gives wisdom ,

Who Am I

 

I will be 67 years old 

And yet a child of God .

I am loved beyond comprehension ,

Forgiven without reason ,

Given peace that surpasses all understanding .

To my so much more valuable identity in Christ .

The Spirit

The Spirit will always guide 

You with the truth .

Sometimes in life it seems 

I am wandering around

In the dark caverns 

Like the ones in the Black Hills ,

Lost and not sure where to turn .

That Jesus does not care about me 

And abandoned me .

Today is called Trinity Sunday .

I stand at awe of the work 

Of the 3 of them .

Jesus promised to give of the Spirit .

The Spirit is our guide .

When we stand in doubt ,

Thinking that Jesus no longer cares ,

The Spirit guides us back to the truth .

The truth is Jesus is always with us .

Jesus cares for us .

Jesus has shown his eternal and merciful love

Father's Day

Being a father is not always easy

You need to learn patience

Your worry never goes away .

You always try to be there for your children

You try to help them 

the best you can .

You can not always hold their hands .

You try to show them the right way

Even when they walk away 

Show them fun and even call them Smiley .

You need to always pray 

Sometimes a father will need to get away

For a while.

If a father runs ,

He can sweat , pray and cry

And only God will understand .

You will not always understand your children

But you will always love them 

Even when a child tells you to go away .

Being a father is never easy

But you need to always listen to them

But you would not be a father with out them

so always show them love , patience 

And pray for them and have fun with them .

Your money may be gone

Glorious Days

I have been disappointed

A few times 

When a special event 

Was held but I did not go 

Because of my family .

Life seems brighter

When we are looking 

Forward to an experience .

The routine days are more enjoyable 

When we excitedly anticipate better ones ahead .

Jesus has guaranteed a better future .

We can eagerly await a glorious future 

And never worry about cancellations .

This gives us unfailing hope for every day 

Of our lives .

Hope is an incredible gift .

It keeps us encouraged 

And up lifted .

Glorious days await .

We will prepare in various ways 

Some beautiful , uplifting . 

And joyous 

With some challenging ,

Painful and tearful 

But the days will come .

I did go out to the cemetery 

When I got back to town .

A prayer is a perfect way 

To begin each day .

To pray that we may know 

The hope to which God has called us .

We have hope of resurrection ,

Because Jesus sent the Spirit ,

I need to welcome challenging 

Times as an opportunity 

To trust you .

Lord I pray to you to increase my trust

I know you are beside me at all times .

When I look up at the stars 

In the night sky ,

I am overwhelmed with awe .

I feel so insignificant .

I am one person on

One planet , a Tiny speck !

In the universe ,

A jot (Jim ) in the infinite beyond .

God is beyond my comprehension .

How can the incredible Creator 

Of all even see me ,

Let alone know and love me .

I am incredulous .

I am humbled .

God sees my brokenness .

God does not embarrass me 

But chooses to crown me 

With glory and honor .

The Creator lifts me up

When others hurt me 

And when I am down .

God helps me and makes me

A steward of God's creation ,

In God's vast infinity ,

In my insignificant part  of eternity ,

With all of my imperfections .

The Almighty considers me special .

Meditate on God's promise .

Yes God's unity is challenging  .

Don't Miss A Chance

Do not ever miss the chance 

To show your children the moon .

There was the previous night's harvest moon .

The full moon was striking 

As it seemed to sit on the horizon .

Be a lover of God's grand creation .

He wanted to train the children

In his way that was worth going

He said do not ever miss the chance 

To show the moon .

He had no intention of worshiping 

The moon or the stars ,

But rather the creative hands behind them .

The heaven and the skies reveal nothing 

Less than the glory of God .

We all too can encourage those around us

For declarations and proclamations

He will redeem us from every trial 

We endure with his love .

In our hardest times , the spirit on high

The water of life is flowing

She Did Not Hide

She was a beautiful lady 

And she felt frightened

And in a way 

Lost herself trying heavy 

Make up .

She covered her special skin

Because she had vitiligo .

It is the lost of pigment in her skin ..

It never stopped her .

She was always on the go .

No matter what she loved every one .

Then one day out of the blue sky

She said why hide ?

God accepted me .

She stopped wearing the heavy make up .

Soon she began gaining attention 

For her smile and self confidence .

She told me we all are created in God's image .

No matter what we look like on the outside ,

All of us are an image bearer of God .

We reflect His glory 

As believers in Jesus we are being formed 

To represent Him in the world .

Do not struggle to love the skin your in .

Today look into the mirror and smile

Remember , God made you in His image .

Through incomprehensible it is true

God communicates with us .

The Lord speaks to us 

through the pages

Of God's word and counsel of leaders 

And friends .

The Spirit tugs and nudges us 

In our hearts .

Of assuring us of God's love , grace  

And presence in our lives ,

Nurturing our relationship with God

My Mom

My mom would make a banquet

At home and made room for everyone 

Who would come in to eat .

Not just the the movers and shakers 

And she did know everyone .

But also the poor , the crippled the blind

Like JI and the lame .

She was like God to me .

She targeted the weak 

And seemingly insignificant ones who came .

Oh what a giant heart she had 

And she shared it with everyone .

Never forget your mother's true value .

Oh I wish she would feed me tonight 

Or just one more time mommy .

God told me to be still .

God will fight for me 

And all I have to be is still .

Sometimes when I experience trouble 

In my life ,

I find myself being still to be 

One of the most difficult thing

In the world to do .

I know do not grieve 

For the strength of God is with me  .

When we are confronted with life's challenges ,

My first impulse is often to fight back 

Or maybe to give up .

When I am being still ,

The trust that God is bigger

Than my challenges 

And that even when I am uncertain

About something ,

I need to be still 

And God is faithful to me in my stillness .

I know it takes the same energy 

To worry as it dose to be happy .

Help me to become an even more

Help me to become an even more 

Effective bearer of my life .

Sometimes I know something 

Before I feel it .

I always have a choice .

Today I feel like an out cast 

And I say why me .

Jesus help me to walk through this day 

With the key of obedience 

In Your hands so that I can open 

The doors of holiness and intimacy 

With you .

Holy Spirit help me to keep growing 

Closer together with You .

My hard times are like my life 

Is on my head 

And spending wildly out of control 

And where am I to go ?

Well God here I am hold my hand

as I pray for my needs today .

I trust and believe in you .

I know my hard times call for prayer and praise 

To the one who controls all things .

God I am often so afraid 

And when I am so tempted to rely 

On my own wits or courage 

And that never works ,

Because I know I need

To love and trust You 

More than ever .

Although you could not do anything 

About someone's sorrow .

You can be there companion .

We are taught even if we were not playing 

We were told to cheer for our friends and teammates ,

Pay attention to what is going on 

And stay ready just in cast

We are called for help or to play .

Just to let everyone know

Together is my favorite place to be .

Love

Love is impossible

But with God all things are possible .

How can we be patient , kind , selfless ,

And everything else .

When we consider how lavishly are 

Called to love one another .

We may be tempted to throw up our hands .

We are so tempted to ask ,

Who can we truly love ?

We are given traits as gifts .

His love is placed in our hearts .

They grow throughout our lives 

As we feed them with the word of God .

We learn patience , kindness , selflessness 

And we become children of God .

It is His love in us that allows 

Our love to grow .

His love shines from us

Brings light to the darkness 

Of our broken world today
