The Detour

That pesky Mr . Murphy 

Is to blame 

If something can go wrong , 

It will go wrong .

Usually , we adapt 

Because more than we can handle .

Panic blinds us and we do not see

Any light at the end of the long tunnel ,

Doubt creeps in and we envision the worst .

Worry makes us question God's presence 

And his caring .

What are we going to do ?

Remember , Jesus' word chase away

The doubts and fear and replaces

Them with calm assurance .

So I pray .

We Can

As believers in Jesus ,

It is our privilege

To show love and demonstrate 

Concern for others through acts

Of Kindness .

Even if we do not think 

We have much to offer ,

We can actively seek opportunities 

To make  a difference in people's lives

By simply doing what we can .

Remember , we should feel empowered 

To be a blessing to everyone we meet today .

Why Me

All people who have ever experienced 

Sexual assault , armed robbery , physical abuse 

Or some other personal attack that people 

Will never talk about .

At the end you will say why me .

The only explanation not really comforting 

Is because of a sinner .

My grandma would tell me .

While God never promised  life would be easy .

He did promise His abiding 

Presence in every situation .

The promised Helper and Comforter

Is the ever present presence

Will fight for us , pray for us ,

Pray with us and dwells within us ,

Guarding and protecting us

In every time of trouble .

We will suffer physical 

Or emotional harm ,

But the Lord will always 

Hold us securely in His arms .

Remember , to always take

One day at a time .

Look At The Stars

I spend time staring at the stars ,

Sometimes a cloud layer will make

Them difficult to see them ,

But if I stay outside for a while 

Sometimes the clouds will dissipate ,

Leaving a clear panorama 

With millions of twinkling stars .

The longer I stare the more stars 

Become visible .

Unfortunately sometimes I allow stereotypes

Or the busyness of the world to obscure

The beauty of those around me .

I do not always look long enough for their

True worth in to focus ,

Whatever you look at remember 

The work of Jesus .

Stand Up To Her

I will stand up and say so .

I will tell her I do not agree .

Oh the price I pay .

Oh the peace I want with my scares .

I will let her know .

It  will not happen again .

I will stand up 

Look into her face 

And say so 

And tell her I will pray for her

As she walks away .

God gave me scares to remind me 

What she did to me 

But now I am at peace 

Because to stand up to her 

And the scares are there 

To remind me that God is with me 

And the scares healed me 

And I am truly at peace and free of pain 

With a scare of beauty .

Always remember God has scares .

Listen

Learn to listen to the Lord .

Even while you are listening 

To other people ,

As they open their souls to you .

You are holy ground .

You need the help of His spirit 

To respond appropriately .

I ask Him to think through me .

Yes I feel He lives through me .

I feel He loves through me .

My own being is alive within me .

In the person of the Holy Spirit .

Remember , our one lives forever 

In the highest heavens 

And this is what He Says ,

Through He lives high above 

In a Holy place .

He is here to help all those

Who are humble and depend 

Only on Him .

Also remember God 

Will always lead you 

And His word will guide your life .

How am I to say yes to you

Again and Again

When you keep hurting me 

Over and over again ?

You did decorate my life .

Now my heart strings have been 

Cut in two .

I am so confused my mind

Has lost so much more than time .

Lord help me to manage my finances wisely .

Help me free the anxiety 

About my future and help me 

To give generously to the truly needy .

I can not oh hum what you did to me .

I try to remember that grass withers

And flowers fall 

But the word of God endures forever .

What Time Is It

Sometimes I need to leave things 

To get where I want to be .

There is a heart I sing to .

In my silence I know you 

Know I love you 

And I do not know 

What to truly do .

Let the rain keep coming down 

Because my tears are racing down 

Faster than the rain .

I feel like a fool once again .

I feel like a puppet on a string 

That you pull 

But now is the time for me to leave 

And go and feel free 

Because you are trying to pull me

In the wrong direction .

Stay in faith and God 

Will show you victory .

Some people will look at me 

With that look .

They will not say a word 

But that look will say it all .

My dad and my true friends 

Would or will hold my hand 

Without gloves on their hands .

I remember , one thing to help me 

Make it through a bad day

You will get God is able

Hoping For A Miracle

I have watched my wife fight against pain .

There are some days and even nights 

When my anxious thoughts become jumbled prayers .

As I began to wonder if my prayers reached beyond 

My ceiling .

I need to trust God .

When I do have doubts , anxieties 

And fear and worry I tell God .

I give thanks to God for the gift of my wife .

I realize that God loves her more than I could .

As soon as I sincerely uttered the words 

I trust you God ,

I feel a special peace

As if a warm blanket was wrapped around me .

It Is Tradition

It is a tradition to be a family of man .

It is a comforting of mix of the people 

We Love and the places they are from .

It is a memory suspended in time .

It is passed  down through ritual 

And like family hunts and fishing parties 

And eating and sleeping together 

And playing cards more than 31 times 

And the TV is always on !

Whatever the tradition are 

We can not wait to celebrate and share 

The tradition with people we care about the most .

The More Years

The more years I have to look back on it .

The more grateful I have become 

For the radical and persistent love of our God .

Whether I am aware of it or not ,

I am constantly being guided and sometimes

Reluctantly to a deeper and a much more generous love  .

As I remember those who have died I can entrust them

Into the hands of a God who refuses to give up on me .

A Sign

We all have asked for a sign 

From God on occasion .

We just ask for a little hint .

We pray to God for divine guidance  

So we make a good decision .

We justify our request for a sign

By qualifying a good choice as one 

That is in keeping with God's will .

We ask for a sign 

Because we seek some wisdom .

We ask because we have faith  

That keeps us on the path to follow 

God's will .

Remember our prayers and action

Do become signs to others 

Of God's presents in our world .

Remember also that God's love

Is like your mother's gravy 

It makes every thing and everyone awesome .

God will surely give us all the opportunities 

To be Christ's hands and feet .

Sometimes those opportunities may seem daunting 

But when you trust God our light can shine brighter
