Secure It

Few things are less secure than money .

We work hard to earn it ,

Yet there are so many ways to lose it .

Investment go sour ,

Inflation erodes ,

Bills come ,

Thieves steal ,

A fire or a flood 

Or people do not pay you back 

When they say they will .

Even when we manage to keep the money ,

The time we have to spend it continually flies .

Blink and your life is going going gone .

There is a future hope for you 

And your hope will not be cut off .

Invest your life in Jesus .

He will keep you forever .

Do Not Forget

Did you forget , that God does protect you 

And provide for you always .

He gives justice to the oppressed 

And food to the hungry .

Only God works great miracles .

God's love for you never fails .

The Lord opens the eyes 

To those who can not see .

Do not forget to refuse 

To waste your energy , worry 

And you will have strength to spare .

And who trust in God's unchanging love

Interpret

When we are overwhelmed

With feelings of inadequacy 

As to how to solve a problem .

We do have access to God 

At any time of day or night .

We can find many interpreters 

To help us with our feelings .

The most accessible are Pastors ,

The Bible and friends and family .

God has provided us with these helpers 

So that we in turn ,
Can help others .

Stop And Look And Listen And Act

Stop look up and look at your surroundings 

Because the tail end is so near .

You do not want any more hard feeling .

You want to fix everything and then just forget it .

Remember , you can not clime 1 latter

Sometimes you need to just take it and walk away .

God's Grace

Even in the midst of a tragedy 

And grief ,

God's grace is sufficient for me .

He Will Keep Watch

Our heavenly Father never takes

What does a hand and an arm do

No Insignificant Prayer

Today in my struggle large or small I will pray .

No prayer is too insignificant for God .

Whenever I feel as if my prayers 

Are a burden to the Lord ,

I think of what I wrote above .

With infinity time 

And the ability to be with all

God listens to every prayer 

And answer them on His time .

Prayer is a conversation 

Yes , a beautiful connection

A Long Journey

As Christians we are on a long journey ,

And our souls so often become weary .

Our labor is hard .

Crime and corruption and sadness fill the news .

We long to be free of the burdens 

That weigh us down day after day 

We cry to God .

We so long to be with Him .

Christ understands that the journey is long .

He knows that we need rest 

For our weary souls .

He could say come to me with compassion .

Come and hear My Words preached this Sunday

Guiding Children

A mother will nurture her child's heart toward God .
She will hopefully continue to what she has learned .

If God is life , the true source of wisdom 

Then it is vital for us to tenderly cultivate a love 

In our families .

There are many things 

That are influencing all our children ,

Like TV shows , movies , music , teachers and friends 

Each of these carry assumptions 

About faith that exerts real influence .

May we choose not to silent .

The beauty and grace we have experienced 

Compels us to guide all our children toward God .

Jesus Calls Us

Jesus calls us every day 

In small but significant ways ,

Inviting us to follow him more closely .

He whispers to us things 

Like give him a hand ,

Give her a call ,

Pay attention to him ,

Be more patient with them ,

Offer to help with that project ,

In each instance ,

We will have to let go of somethings 

In order to follow Jesus' invitation .

Our personal agenda ,

Some precious time ,

Control ,

Our fear of getting involved 

And then there is the excuse .

A fingerprint that no one else has .

So you can leave an imprint

His Never Failing Love

Sometimes we face struggles in life 

And we are tempted to think God has forgotten us ,

We may even for a time 

Believe that God no longer loves us .

But God's love for us is as expansive as the open arms

Of Christ on the cross .

The tender compassion

Is more dependable and more enduring than love 

Of a  nursing mother for her infant .

My Singing Dad

No one told me before we

Had a child how important singing would be .

The child had trouble sleeping .

I would rock and dance and sing 

In all hours of the night

With the child in my arms .

I would sing lullabies to hopefully 

Speed up the process .

As I sang , crocked and danced 

With my child night after night .

Something amazing happened ,

I deepened my bond of love and delight .

For in a way I never dreamed .

I was loving and also rejoicing 

Over my child every time I sang to them .

I learned from my dad .

Who tenderly sang songs of love with me 

When I was young .

Now , I sing to and with my grandson .

Unity And Compassion

Strong people do not put others down 

They lift them up .

Someone's magnanimous gesture 

Reminds me that every human

Has the potential to cease retaliation ,

Yet how quickly the mind and heart 

Opt for returning inflected pain ,

Hoping the one creating harm 

Will hurt just as much for doing so .

No wonder it is such a challenge 

To accept the teaching of Jesus .

There is another option .

The way of mercy and forgiveness .

I need to remember this every morning ,

Because hardly a day passes 

Without the desire to return 

Like an eye for an eye  ,

All it takes is someone cutting 

Into a long line in front of my impatient self .

He Will Always

He promised a Comforter to help us ,

Because He knew we were going to need 

All the help we can get .

We know He has promised to return  ,

We are fighting a battle every day

Broken Promises

We all have broken our promises ,

And we have had people and children 

Break their promises to us .

Through we had hoped to be faithful .

We realize exactly how faithful we are .

Where our confession of hope lies .

The one who promises to send the Holy Spirit

Christ is my inner strength .

When you go to the big cities 

And see the tall skyscrapers  .

They seem to reach the sky .

The ultimate architect and engineer  ,

We are best equipped to weather 

The storm of life .

A Child's Faith

When it was time for the Lord's Prayer ,

I saw a 5 year old boy 

Who did not know the words in church 

But somehow he understood 

It was something special 

And that he needed to show proper respect .

The 5 year old boy stood at attention 

And placed his hand over his heart 

As if it were a patriotic pledge .

He stood that way through out 

The entire prayer .

His child like respect for Jesus' words 

Put me to shame .

Hate

Hate corrodes the container 

That carries it .

There is damage done to anyone 

When they harbor hatred .

There is damage to the body 

When we cling to the negative 

Or release burst of anger .

The body blood pressure 

Rises ,

The heart pounds ,

The spirit will sag .

Hatred stirs up conflict ,

But love covers over all wrongs .

Remember , hated fuels the drive 

For revenge so that people who despise 

Each other can not connect .

Remember , by contrast God's way

Learn The Different Cry

I learned the different cries of my children .

I grew to distinguish hunger from discomfort

From just a need to be held .

We all grow in faith in much the same way .

We cry out and the father hears us ,

Discerning our needs and giving what is necessary .

Eventually , our cries are replaced by words 

And these words become a song of praise ,

An offering back to the provider 

Of comfort and yes daily bread .

Hard Work

Hard work and discipline are necessary

For all those who volunteer to serve 

In our armed forces .

Without that tough training ,

They would not be prepared to defend 

Our country's freedom .

Though I may have not served 

In the armed forces ,

As a Christian I still face battles every day .

If not prepared or dressed properly 

For those battles 

I may find myself in despair .

God gave us an armor 

That can not be penetrated .
The devil will shoot all sorts of things 

Our way ,

But if we are prepared and fully 

Dressed for battle ,

We can use God's Word 

As our greatest weapon 

To stand firm against 

All the devil's schemes .

Doubting is a lack of belief .

Doubting is a need to see 

Before we can belief .

Doubting that God hears 

Us is a sin .

A clear connection to Him .

Trusting God and believing in His Son 

Gives us all the confidence

We are being chased by 

The consequences of our wrong choices 

And we cry out to the Lord in our troubles 

And He will bring out the distress .

He will still the storm to a whisper 

Whether the storm of life 

Are of our own making

When we are being chased by storms ,

He alone is able to calm the storm within .

The Small Things

I read today about the 7 times Elijah's assistance said ,

I see a small cloud the size of a human hand coming from the sea .

That was the evidence we all needed 

To know that God was about to move in big ways .

We can look for God in all situations .

The problems we face may not go away overnight 

Like kids or grand kids ,

But often we can find something to be grateful for .

Remember , a grateful heart can change 

Our outlook just watch the kid's smile .

The Coach Who Never Not Paid

We know the church is the body of Christ .

Because of Jesus 

We have been given more than we deserve ,

The Bible mentions wisdom 

And the importance of having it ,

It is a good thing it does 

Because of the opposite of wisdom

The secret to time management ,

Is not to go faster or slower 

It is to abide in God .

Spending more time with Him 

Then we get in step with each other ,

But first with Him the one 

Who formed us and knows 

Our purpose and plans .

Our time on earth will not last forever .

Not by watching the clock ,

But by giving each day to God .

Oh teach us to number our days 

That we may gain a heart of wisdom

You know every time 

I look at my watch 

To see what time it is ,

The time was right to pray .

I made it a habit to pray

God's love can never be taken from me .

My love for them

Touch Up

It is easy to touch up your outward appearance

To look as if you have it all together 

And you say I am fine for the shape I am in .

You can laugh laugh on the outside 

And cry in the inside and you can fool some people

But God can see straight through you all the time .

God understands you in the light of day or in the night .

So cast all your anxiety and worry on to thee .

Come to Him all who labor and are heavy laden .

Always talk to Him about your struggles and inadequacy .

He will truly understand you and He will give you rest .

It Is Going To Be OK

I have never felt God's power and presence 

As profoundly in ordinary times 

As I have in my weakest moments .

I know I can do nothing but pray .

He is my source for every thing .

This is why , when life pulls the rug

I feel his mighty hand reach 

Down to pull me up and guide me .

In these moments of a broken heart 

And my spirit is crushed

It Is Vital

It is so vital that we are humans 

Find our right environment 

So that we can blossom .

Each of us is original and valuable ,

Not all Christians require being

In the spotlight to make life meaningful .

The important thing is that we find 

Our right environment ,

That God has given us ,

We can bring hope and share in God's kingdom .

To Love

We are called to love 

People who are different from us 

In any number of ways .

Yes , Jesus commands us to love one another .

Love compels us to be kind 

And nonjudgmental to all people 

But when we try to live this 

Jesus inspired love of others .

We all encounter problems

Because some people think ,

Speak and act in ways 

That are very inappropriate .

Sadly within society 

There are individuals

Who may be vicious criminals .

Even though they are in the minority ,

These people are included in the worldwide 

Population in which we are to love one another .

Change Of Heart

While we tend to put limitations 

On who is worthy of our compassion ,

Jesus was willing to reach out 

To all human beings .

Some of us have difficulties dropping

Our assumptions and prejudices 

Toward the rich .

Others reject the poor or the minorities .

However in the grand moments 

When we put our judging mind on pause ,

There is room for the Spirit of Christ 

To change our hearts .

The Rhythm

I know the world beats to a rhythm .

The sun rises and sets every day and night .

The seasons change 4 times a year ,

Even our bodies flows 

To a lunar cycle .

We live by an inhale exhale rhythm 

And rarely do we notice it ever .

The rhythm and balance is a worthy quest .

If we do not find that balance ,

That the entire world is on our shoulders 

And that is if we stop ,

Life will come crashing down fast .

Sometimes I feel exhausted 

And yet I feel like I am not doing enough .

And just be me like fishing and hunting 

And running and visiting with my true friends

Once my grandson was about to take a nap

He was 3 years old .

His face filled with tears and with alarm .

He said Nanna did not hold me yet .

With a smile she said ,

How long of a hold do you need ?

Five minutes he replied .

As she held her grandson ,

I was so grateful for how ,

Without even trying ,

He constantly reminds me 

What it is like to love and be loved .

I think sometimes we forget 

That our faith journey 

Is one of learning to experience love .

God's love is more fully than we can imagine .

When we lose that focus ,

We can find ourselves trying desperately 

To wins God's approval .

While missing out on all He has already given us .

Through time with Him we can return 

To a place of peace

And find hope we need in His love .

We need to be calm and quiet 

As if we were children again

Forgive And Be Forgiven

Someone may sometimes do something 

That will irritate you ,

Make you angry and cry ,

Cause emotional or physical pain ,

Some of these acts will be 

Petty and easy to forgive 

Or so horrible that may change 

Your life forever .

It is hard to forgive some people .

The words said again you do hurt terribly .

You may feel insulted and humiliated by someone .

Remember , Jesus understands all of these feelings .

He experienced humiliation , insults , being spit on 

And brutally beaten .

Yet , out of love and compassion ,

He pleated with God to forgive the one 

Who had caused Him so much pain and suffering 

And ultimately death .

He took all the pain and suffering for us all 

And He instructed us to love others .

Yes , we can forgive as we put our trust in God .

Storms are inevitable in life ,

Help me to choose to dwell daily

Last night my guardian angel stood by me .

How do we listen to God ?

How Many Times

I wonder how many times 

I have lashed out at others and even God ,

Out of fear and the pain in my and others .

I am grateful now that God has freed me

From the pain of emotional abuse .

Now when someone speaks 

To me in an unkind way ,

I am better able to be tenderhearted 

And not take it all personally .

Knowing that God loves and affirms me ,

I can regard others and myself with compassion .

Praise God , the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ  .

The Father is a merciful God 

Who always gives us comfort .

He comforts us when we worry and pray

And we are in trouble ,

Be shaken .

Remember to pray that He will turn

Light The World

Jesus has called us to be 

His light to the world .

I believe those who shine 

Are meant to move out 

Into the night .

Just as objects that glow 

Are most useful in the dark .

So our simple loving presence 

In this troubled world has great value .

Still , we all face days when we do not 

Feel all that bright and shiny

During those times 

It helps me to think about the tiny 

light sources like a match ,

A small flashlight .

When we step out to help others ,

Even our faintest glow can serve

The popular image we have of angels 

As radiant or winged creatures is only half true .

While some appear this way 

Others come with dusty dirty feet ,

Ready for a meal and easily 

Mistaken for everyday people ,

By showing hospitality to strangers .

We can entertain angels 

Without realizing it .

Remember , angels are at work now ,

Helping God's people .

They can appear as a person on the street 

As you need help to get

There is always hope .

Faith in God calls us to live lives of hope 

And to be beacons of hope for others .

The hope we find in God is lasting

We Are The Patient

We are all healers who can reach out and offer help ,

And also we are all patients in constant need of help .

God heals the brokenhearted and bind up our wounds .

Time is a trainer , teaching us to wait upon Him 

To trust Him in all kinds of weather , yes in the dark too .

Remember , the more trouble we are in 

The more likely we will see his power and glory at work .

Do not let the difficulties draw us into worrying .

Try to view them as setting the scene 

For God's glorious intervention .

We need to keep our eyes 

And our minds truly wide open 

To all that God is doing in our lives .

My Life

My life often feels frenzied and hectic .

I hurry from one thing to the next .

Out of sheer exhausted one day ,

I collapsed in my outdoor chair 

In my back yard .

I wanted to sit for just a moment or two ,

But in the undistracted stillness ,

I began to notice things 

That invited me to linger longer .

I could hear the pheasants talking ,

The sky is a brilliant blue ,

And the clouds move 

With the Sioux Dakota wind

Grandmas And Grandpa

Grandmas and grandpas are some 

Of the fiercest , most powerful 

Creatures on the planet .

They have the power to influence 

Not only they grand kids 

But also the world for generations 

To come by the way they smile ,

They love , nurture and lead .

While they are so incredible ,

The daily tasks of grand parenting 

Can feel like a vast wilderness 

That requires forging 

New paths for their grand children .

All grand parents pray their grandchildren 

Will always listen to their grandparents

I mirrored my dad and my uncles to remain active .

Busyness made me feel accepted , important and in control  ,

While noise distract me from fretting over my short comings and trials .

I do surrender and rest only affirms my frail humanity .

So I avoid stillness and silence , doubting the Lord could handle

Things without my help.

But God is my refuge , no matter how many troubles or uncertainties

Surround us all .

The path ahead may seem long , scary or overwhelming ,

But His love envelopes  us .

He hears us , answers us

And stays with us forever and always .

New Years Resolution

Many of us will make resolutions 

To eat better , exercise more , spend less

And for me not to drink today .

We all run into danger ,

However , when we treat deepening

Our relationship with God 

As we are all going to fall short 

Of spiritual perfection .

If we truly desire to grow 

In love for Him ,

Giving up after a bad weekend 

Is not an option .

Let us all resolve to keep this resolution 

To put obedience to Him 

And his loving desire for us first

All kids should be able to throw a seed

There are somethings that can never be forgotten .

But God's love for his children 

Is far more deeply imprinted than any of our fading memories .

You know God can not forget them .

God's promise to care for his people was more certain

Than a mother's love for her child .

To assure them of His unchanging love ,

He gave them a great picture of His commitment .

He engraved you on the palms of His hands .

It is a beautiful image of God's constant awareness

Of His children .

Yes , their name and faces are always before Him .

Today we can easily feel overlooked and forgotten .

How comforting to remember that we are etched 

On God's hands .

Always remember we are cared for and loved by our Father .
