To Gain Understanding

I love you , your always on my mind .

You make me wiser than my foes .

I know your will .

When I pray God's prayers ,

I mean them and say them with my heart .

When I think about my own prayers ,

I realize that I often hold back something from God 

Because it feels like something selfish 

But the Bible tells me that our Father

Loves to hear our request .

Lord , I am tired .

I am struggling with anxiety .

I need your peace .

A strength that comes deep from within you 

Without it people could give up .

If times were hard ,

I would need fortitude

Be Patient

If the person you are talking to

Be patient ,

It may simply be that she 

Has a small piece of fluff

In her ear .

Sometimes it may be that she 

Is broken and discouraged .

Her spirit was broken

You need understanding and compassion ,

Not to censure .

You need to be patient .

God says , love is patient , love is kind 

And willing to wait .

He is not finished with that individual .

He is working through the sorrow ,

Stars Of Compassion

The stars of compassion and healing 

Shine as beacons of hope in a world 

That is once full of beauty 

And scarred by brokenness .

On a human level I believe 

We can never truly calculate the impact

Remember My Father

Remembering my dad prompts me to think

Of my heavenly Father and creator ,

Who has always been busy at work .

God laid the earth's foundation 

And marked off its dimensions .

The morning stars sang together 

And all the angels shouted with joy .

Everything He created was a work of art ,

A masterpiece .

He designed a breathtakingly beautiful world 

And pronounced it very good .

He made you and me and designed us 

In intimate details .

He entrusted us with and instilled in us

The goal and desire to work ,

Which includes ruling and caring 

For the earth and its creatures like the horses 

And the birds .

No matter the work we do in our job or in our leisure 

Like fishing and hunting .

God gives us what we need to work wholeheartedly for Him .

Resist fear and follow God's truth .

When I pray to God earnestly 

In the midst of exhaustion , distress ,

Weakness or even feel powerlessness ,

I feel as if God is stroking my head .

That God enjoys comforting me

Immediate Results

Working toward something

Without immediate results is disheartening .

But rewards are not always immediate 

Or immediately visible 

When your child is involved 

When that is the case ,

It is easy to feel that good things 

We do are useless ,

Even helping a child 

Or being kind to a stranger .

Remember , a man reaps 

What he sows 

But we must not become weary 

In doing good 

For at the proper time we will reap a harvest .

Doing good is not the way 

To gain salvation and the text 

Does not specify whether what we reap

Will be now or in heaven ,

But we can be assured that there will be 

A harvest of blessings .

Doing good is difficult 

Especially when we do not see

Or know what the harvest will be .

The blessing is coming

It can be hard to understand why we suffer .

God can use our affliction in unexpected ways .

As we turn to Him ,

God comforts us in all our troubles

Probing For More

What I learned as the years go by 

In my quiet moments of prayer .

There was another and more 

 Powerful force at work .

For even as I struggle physically 

And mentally with what I am going through ,

I sense the gentle hand of God's probing 

And testing that innermost part of myself 

Where only God can reach .

It is at my heart and center 

That God is preparing me for the great next 

And more of my life ,

For God knows what I need more more than I do .

You need to trust God when you are afraid

Praise God

In the springtime , I love to sit 

Outside alone in the early morning 

Chill to sip a cup of green tea 

And bask in the sound of nature .

Each creature praised God in its own way .

I enjoy the symphony of praise

The orchestra often include the loud 

Trumpet sounds of Canada geese

Flying overhead .

Each bird has its own unique sound ,

But together they generate a beautiful morning 

Chorus of praise ,

We each have our own distinctive 

God given voices 

With which we can praise God .

Some people have the ability 

To praise God during conversations 

With others .

Some are skilled at soundlessly praising

God through prayer 

Like the birds we can merge our unique

Voices and together share a magnificent melody

Sometimes we go through seasons

She would put thing on me 

And use a yard stick on me

As she went around me !

The reality is that everything

With spiritual predators abound .

We wander aimlessly ,

Seeking worth , purpose and significance .

These heavy burdens come with the knowledge

Life in Christ does not hold us back ever .

In Christ we know eternal worth ,

Oh face book a message said come help a family .

I know someone who's response was ,

If there is something that I can do ,

I will be glad and happy to help to .

Now that is a servant spirit .

He has mastered the way to make 

The world a brighter place

Many times we fail to see our potential 

Because we allow our limitations 

To discourage us .

But everyday we are given opportunities 

To reach out to serve God , to love others

To Focus

I have a thing or two wrong with me .

There are days of discomfort .

During the pain , I worry 

That it will not go away .

At my age now I still have fear 

And the uncertainty of me getting older .

On bad days I turn my focus to God 

And that has helped me to grow in my faith ,

With the support I need to endure 

So that I no longer live in constant fear .

In turn my faith has shifted my focus away

From me and toward helping others with their pain .

For God is my strength .

Some do not even thank me just a little bit .

Someone told me a while back 

That there is no road so long that 

It does not have a turn in it somewhere .

I will remember that the next time I go for a run 

And I focus in on the right direction to go .

You already have continual joy

I believe God has given me 

The gift of writing .

Worries Hold Me Captive

I will bless the Lord at all times  ,

His praise shall continually be in my mouth .

When I praise Him my worries 

Are placed in the shadow of God's greatness .

Since God has forgiven my sins 

I can look forward with hope .

And I will panic 

And call someone  

Who truly knows me

Sorrow over what is lost has been replaced

And for the promise of eternity .

Panic moved out and peace moved in .

What I do not know what to do ,

I can do what I know how to do too .

I praise and trust God to free me

You will find open air light .

The world around you may seem

On a normal day I barely have time

To take a breather and think about God .

As I ran about two hours before dawn ,

The birds chatter gradually 

Swells to a soft , slow , throat vibrating .

Songs directed heavenward .

I felt like being invited to join .

Sometimes I add feeble songs of praise .

To the birds choir .

I feel the icy heaviness melt and joy 

And hope awaken in me .

Yes the darkness , will end soon .

When I run I do not think of my loneliness ,

My physical or relational wounds ,

My longing for darkness 

Will turn to light .

I can learn from the rhythms 

Of the bird songs as I run .

Their songs will come to a climax 

During the darkness and usher in 

The light of the morning that is coming .

Remember , the whole earth is filled 

With wonders where morning dawns

Compassionate Friends

My friend is over whelmed and exhausted .

He would say Lord 

How am I going to do this ?

Friends would come over and just listen

And tell him he is loved .

A bit of compassion goes a long way .

And it prompted his friends 

To come to his aid .

To show God's love and in their way 

Lighting his load .

God is with him during that time .

When Lent Starts ,

Our prayer and reflection 

May deepen our self awareness .

Works of charity and devotion 

May help to renew our spirit .

But what the Father sees are our deepest

When the Sacred Triduum  rolls around ,

When a child is scared ,

One thing a grandpa can do 

Is kiss the small palms several times 

Of the child's left hand 

And then right hand .

Grandpa then tells his grandson 

Now you have kisses

Is just pull out some kisses 

That I put in the palms of your hands .

This will give you strength .

What ever the cry 

He responds because He loves us .

He is God .

God watches over us

But God does not restrict 

Our access to times 

Of utter crisis or emergency .

We can come to God any time of day .

Love really is not if we can 

Grasp or possess it ,

But so that we can 

Recognize , strive after

At my age these days 

I pray that the incidents 

That triggers my bitterness 

Would not be held against 

The perpetrators ,

Identifying sin 

But no longer trying to quantify

Or down play it .

I pray that when those who

Had hurt me come before God ,

God would have forgotten

Any act committed against me .

I imagine films not snap shots 

Of their lives 

In which the sections with sin 

Against me will have been erased

And as I do this bit ,

My bitterness will  be resolved 

And my heart will have found peace .

In My Sorrow

I know I am not alone 

In my sorrow .

In my time of distress ,

My temptation can be to despair ,

To lose sight of the love of God .

Sometimes , even though my friends 

Can not lift my physical burdens 

For me , just hearing my friends 

Say I am with you in your struggle

And I love you is enough to remind me

Of the presence of God in my sorrow

Perfect Peace

The Lord does give perfect peace 

To those whose faith is strong and firm .

The Lord said your faith has saved you 

So go in peace .

When you are in perfect peace ,

There is a special rest and stillness 

Waiting for all the people of God 

So they can enter the land of peace and rest .

Grandpa's Time

 

When I spend time with grandpa ,

Our time goes by but it does not go away 

Between us .

With grandpa why value the present hour 

Less than some future hour .

He and I play fair !

Grandpa said in his heart 

There is so much to share .

Like melodies , stories , ideas ,

Wishes , wisdom and memories 

Grandpa always calls me Smiley 

And he calls me the best grandson

In the whole world almost every day 

And when I am with grandpa 

I share grandpa's special time .

We take each day as it comes 

But truly the days never go away

Between me and him 

Because we have our memories .
