What Is The Rush

When I look down Main Street 

With it's hurry and all the flurry 

As the cars race down Main 

And past Sommer's Bar .

When I look at all the old tired faces

Of the people who are tired of life 

And living in this old town

Where even prayers are hurried 

And where the old are put down

Before sun down .

I wish people would listen to me

When I say 

What is going on 

And what is the rush ?

I wish there was more laughs

What you do is less than a drop

In the ocean

I Hear Her

When I hold my grandchild ,

I hear my grandma more

Than ever before .

My grandchild has curly hair .

A wide eyed toddler 

With a big smile 

And he is not mute .

The child  feels 10 feet tall sometimes .

The child is never afraid to say

The child brings family and friends together .

When my grandchild has a bad day ,

I can hear my grandma tell me .

The child will have a real bad day 

From time to time

Morning On A Farm

As the sun begins to break down the road ,

I hear a rooster crow

And also I hear a pheasant cock say hello .

Their calls wake me .

Today is the first day of day light savings time

When we take a nap 

With my legs 

I carry him down 

To the basement !

We will sit in grandpa's chair

Sawyer wanted to play with grandpa

Sawyer said that to me a few days ago 

He made grandpa feel old .

Today , I lost a true friend so warm and true .

Today my world is so blue without you .

I do not open the windows much any more

The wise old people 

Have much to teach about life .

The young need the counsel

I Am Getting Old

I still run when I can .

I am a little more tired at the end

Of each day 

A little more weary when the day is done 

A little bit harder to face the cold 

It just means I am getting old .

In the winter time 

I look out the window sometimes

And look at the sapling

And look at the bare knotted branches 

Bowing under the heavy snow and sparking icicles .

When I was told some bad news ,

I reached out to friends and family .

None were available .

I said to my self help me God .

I have the assurance inside me

That God was with me

To comfort me through this moment

And whenever I need help from him .
