My Alley

My alley along side my house reminds me 

Of the path God has laid out for me 

As I walk along my ally .

I come to know God’s unconditional love ,

Peace and guidance .

When I stay ,

I encounter conflict and chaos .

Daily practices like reading scripture ,

Praying and listening for God’s response 

Keeps me walking along God’s alley .

My faith grows stronger 

With each step I take .

I want my Spiritual alley 

To become as well worn

A Lament

A lament offers a map  through grief .

Reality is faced boldly 

And loss felt bravely .

The searing pain is brought to God .

Oh Lord distressed I am .

I feel torment  within .

Only then can he move on to hope .

Only then can the rebuilding start .

It is the same with  me .

When something terrible happens ,

I can not fully heal  

Until I face reality ,

Pour.out my pain

And lean into God’s presence .

I know you see the Christmas trees 

All over the world .

You tell me to wipe away the tears .

You are spending Christmas  with Jesus .

And it sounds better in heaven .

How much I love you .

I know you want my heart to be joyful

See It Differently

I truly understand how limited I am 

Both in perspective 

And in power .

By aligning with the unlimited source 

Of all , I am beginning to see things

No Quick Fix

There is no quick fix in the struggle 

To change .

It is a journey .

When I walk with Christ 

My individual temptations  may vary ,

My sins separates me  from God

When I go to church  I gather

And I find encouragement  , accountability 

And a place to feel connected .

Hollow Trees

People I cross paths with every day 

May be like hollow trees 

Even when I call them Smiley .

I am rarely given a chance 

To peer into the hollow 

And offer grace or support .

I am rarely vulnerable 

Enough to reveal my own hurts

But as part of God’s love for us all ,

God encourages you and I

To look into the hollows 

In ourselves and others

A Sense Of Delight

We all have opportunities 

To serve others every day .

When we pray for God to direct our steps 

And open our eyes to ways to serve ,

Our Creator is delighted to answer

Our requests .

We can help an elderly person 

With their groceries 

Or take the time to talk to a lonely friend 

On the phone .

Sometimes you need to try a friend’s 

Phone number more than once 

The say day .

God will know you are trying .

Regardless of how we love others ,

We can experience a small sense of delight 

When we serve others and glorify God .

I Will Make it

A voice in my mind said

You will make it .

Just that simple phrase. 

Soon after,

With much prayer

I would not wish  this sad experience

I have a great relationship with God .

I can open myself to God’s Spirit

God really did answer me in my time

Despite my insecurities ,

I do have a roof over my head ,

Food to eat ,

While the material aspect of life

And to our relationship with God  .

As we go about our life’s journey 

Noting the successes of others ,

We should remember what we have

We have all had to bury somebody 

In a season of hardship and uncertainty  .

In doing so perhaps we yielded the spirit 

Of loss .

But we can find strength in the fact 

That God has the power to revive  ,

And what we perceive as failure  into freedom  .

We often let things get in the way 

Of God’s miraculous work in our lives .

Sometimes we let our crowded lives

The blessing of God .

Thanks to God that He removes all

No Need For Tears

The Lord cares for us in our grief 

And comforts us as we mourn .

Someday there will be no tears

Every time  I am asked to assemble

Anxiety

The stress of these times wear me down  ,

But it has also taught me about God’s 

Power , comfort and strength in new ways .

I have always believed in and talked 

To God on a regular basis ,

But this year has been different .

I have held on to my faith

That have come my way .

Even though my anxiety still remains ,

God reminds us that His words are wondrous

The first step is rejoicing in the Lord .

Jesus is the gift that keeps giving .

There is always a good reason 

To ask Jesus to put the pause button 

On his request that we follow 

 As soon as the kids are out of the door   ,

As soon as things slow down at work  .

May we remember that Jesus is not looking

He knows all about our busyness already  .

All he is looking for is one word yes  ,

Everything else goes down

Angels Today

God may still use angels today 

 To deliver messages ,

But we can be certain that He sends us 

To speak His words of hope and promise  .

We are given  the opportunity

It may be through a long conversation  ?

It may be a simple greeting  ,

A cup of green tea 

Or a listening ear  .

Our fear we have in sharing our faith 

Is that we may not know what to say .

May the Holy Spirit lead and guide us

The Christmas Tree

While the tree brings joy 

Into our homes with the festive lights 

And decorations  ,

We also realize that the tree is dying 

Because it has been cut from its source 

Of life .

We provide water for it on a daily basis ,

But that is not enough to keep 

It from dying out and losing its needles .

When January comes and the tree 

It has dropped its needles leaving the house

It is a great reminder of the gift of life 

That once came from a tree 

That was dead .

It was through His death and resurrection  

That we receive life and healing  .

If we are  wondering whether God will forgive

Where do you look when you walk

One day while walking .

 All of creation is groaning .

As Christians we live in a constant state

Often we look for God to move

We will enter a wilderness 

At some point 

Financial crisis , isolation , sickness .

But God will find a way

The provision of a well paying job ,

New and successful business  ventures 

Healing but other times ,

God works in simple ways 

Like making a part time job

Available to us 

Or sending someone to keep us company 

When we are lonely .

We can trust God to make a way 

For us in every wilderness .

The Judge

All people see their sin .

The question is what comes next  ?

In Christianity without Christ ,

There is no solution .

With Him , we see our sin 

And then we see our Savior .

We know God is the  judge 

And we know we deserve  judgement .

But we also know Christ .

We know we are not just sinners .

We are forgiven dinners .

It is a guaranteed promise 

Because fit is made by 

The only one who has the authority 

To condemn and to forgive .

It is the promise made by the judge Himself .

The one who judges has to be 

The one who saves .

Otherwise it is powerless 

Praise God that He does judge 

And that through Jesus ,

His judgement is not guilty  .

Our Lord calls us to a life 

Being a disciple of Jesus 

Is a lifestyle indeed .

From the day He met us in Baptism ,

The Holy Spirit has led to confess 

With our mouths and to believe

We have been reoriented to Him 

And His work in the world  .

His mission is now our own .

His message too .

A Young Child

To picture  a young child 

Bursting with excitement 

While stringing together 

One and after another .

The bearer can not help but smile 

At the pure joy flawing

So it is for us before

For all His mighty deeds 

And awesome works. ,

There is one act above all rest 

That demonstrated  His power most fully  .

The act was displayed 

In His Son’s  weakness on the cross .

There we find Jesus ,

Jesus could have entered a  His time

But he did not .

God knows who we are. .

With each unkind remark

Jesus proved the depth of the Father’s love .

With His forgiving word

Jesus is the light of the world .

No matter where we go or what we do ,

He is the light shinning in the darkness .

With his light shinning in our hearts 

We are a new creation .

We may not see bad habits as sins .

Certainly a bad habit 

Here or there can add up

Research shows that the best way 

To get rid of a bad habit 

Is to develop  a new o one .

Jesus can break sin’s grip  on us  

When we have good habit ,

Like when we pray  regularly ,

Let us study God’s Word 

Go to church weekly 

Avoid situations of temptation .

Makes a difference in our lives

If Jesus calls ?

The gracious  reign  and  rule of God 

In the hearts 

and lives of His redeemed ones 

Beckons us to give thanks 

And then to get out there !

If all can seem so over whelming  .

That we do not have a place ,

But we do ,

Because it is the Lord who redeem us , 

And it is the Lord Himself who sends us

God’s Generosity

God’s generosity is evident  .

He did not spare His own Son 

But gave Him up for us .

We can trust that He will give 

Us all things need full .

As we open our hearts and hands 

More and more to others  .

God  supplies us with more and more to give

When others see our generosity

In Jesus and God’s promised provision ,

They too will offer a sacrifice 

Of thanksgiving to God .

When we profess faith ,

There is a prosperity and inheritance 

That will endure far beyond 

Our accumulated wealth 

And possessions .

Perhaps right now those we love 

Are not interested in this gift .

It is still our responsibility

The phrase love never ends .

Maybe confusing until we read the good 

News 

That God is love .

It is His love that is perfect

How Blessed We Are

How blessed we are that the Savior 

Meet us. ,

Especially in times of sorrow and grief  .

Breathless

Breathless for what lays ahead , 

Our Savior turned to prayer 

To the hope and love of his Father ,

Who not only heard His prayer 

But ultimately answer  it 

Not with the finality 

Of the cross but with an empty tomb   .

Prayer is faith breathing .

Where in , if God gives prayer  to us

Never Withhold

Thanks be to God  through our Savior 

Jesus , that God’s forgiveness is never

Withheld .

When His people return to Him 

In confession ,

What is more , God restores

Whether our innocence 

Or our chastity

God can restore  us 

To a newness of life  .

The Boat

Jesus rescues us every day .

He does not let us drown in guilt .

He rebuked yes the word is clear that we

Have sinned 

Yet even while rebuking  ,’

Jesus rejoices to save ,

He stands ready to shower us 

With his grace immediately .

The same Lord who calms the wind 

And the waves and he walks on water 

Is the one who grabs hold of us 

And brings us back into the boat 

Where we belong .

The church has seen itself as a boat 

Because  that is where our Lord  

Has promised 

To be to protect us 

From the dangerous waters of the world .

Let us worship Him . rebuked and rescues .

Jesus fully inhabited our human condition .

He knows the bite of a hot summer .

He experienced the emotional pain 

Of being an  outsider 

And being abandoned by his people ,

Just when we most needed 

His presence like a hug  .

His shoulders with all that is human 

Emboldens us to approach him 

From the limits of our own humanity .

Never Easy

Peace is never easy .

The way of sorrows 

And the cross prove that 

Yet what fruit we enjoy 

When we kneel beneath the cross 

And hear the Savior’s Word  of forgiveness .

We are set free 

From the bitterness 

And strife that would otherwise consume us 

And drive us apart .

Our choice is not of a rock 

Or a hard place 

It is a joyful place

As we pass between Jesus 

Two pierced palms.

It is a joyful place to be 

Forgiven and now forgiving

The Right Way

No matter what kind of work we  do 

Like  washing dishes the right way

Like dancing in the kitchen 

With a child  , a friend , a loved one 

Like when you paint indoors or outside 

Or write 

Or draw

Or to help you and I to learn something

We all need music 

When you hear music 

You do not hurry or worry

No Greater Place

There is no greater place to be

He Will Not Turn Away

Forgiveness is a beautiful gift 

In a life of service to the Lord .

It is not a condition for forgiveness ,

However any more than is getting ourselves 

Right in God’s sight before we receive it ,

But once the salve has been applied

To the wounded soul 

God’s healing sets in ,

Restoring us to life in Jesus’ name .

Rejoice to receive the Lord’s forgiveness.

Nothing we have done can hold it at bay .

No sin or shame is so great 

To turn our Lord’s face 

Completely away when ,

In the strength of the Holy Spirit ,

We come to Him .

He will not turn anyone away. .

When I take a moment every day 

And quiet myself in prayer

I am in the presence of God 

Who created me on purpose  .

The one who gave me life .

It can change my whole day

Rejoice today to be a part of your

The Body Of Christ  is like a bank  ,

Most of the time we are investing ,

But there are times 

When we need to draw out

To be held up

Enabling the fuller expression of God’s love 

In Christ .

In the end .

Reputation

With damaged reputation before God ,

We stand in need of His Grace ,

It is only such goodness in Jesus 

That restores our relationship CD with Him .

It is that same grace that transforms us 

To be and become instruments  of His peace 

Forever looked upon through 

The forgiving eves of Jesus ,

Even turned our from the cross ,

We are given strength and blessings 

To look upon others with the same love 

We ourselves have revived .

God I Need You

When you need company go for a walk

With God .

When you need someone to talk to 

Turn to God .

When you are alone take God’s hand 

And you again not alone .

When you need God the most

He is already there .

You should never back down 

Or give up 

And never lose faith. .

Your life may not be perfect 

But you are blessed  .

We all know sometimes 

The best thing 

You can do for someone is pray 

For them and let God do for them

All Told

All told , taking anything that does not 

Rightfully 

Belong to us an affront to the goodness

Of God .

Out of His grace ,

He provides for us in aspects of our lives ,

Granting us possessions we neither truly

Deserve nor fully earn .

It is out of that same largesse 

That His forgiveness also poured out 

When we repent of transgressing 

His commands .

To think that He provides 

For our every need materially 

And spiritually is a mystery to deep

We are blessed on our journey  .

We do not make it alone .

The saints of old even now ,

Are cheering us on .

The road sign of God’s word

Affirming our every step  .

Water and food stations

And at His Table of grace  .

Do Not Postpone

Do not postpone talking to God 

Because he turned water into wine .

Do not postpone enjoyment .

Do not postpone a smile  .

No Sense

It feels like I am listening to God 

But things in my life are just 

Not making sense .

I accept the bad as consequences 

For sun .

This keeps me from investing 

In the things that God is calling 

Me to do right now .

When these times come 

Remember that the God of all flesh

To restore good things to me 

So I need to listen and obey ,

Tightrope

Trust God to answer our prayers 

Can seem like walking on a tightrope  .

When our focus and allegiance 

Are divided between God and our world ,

Doubt will creep in and begin to wobble  .’

We must get stable again 

Before we are able to move forward .

When we start to wobble ,

We fix our eyes on our Savior ,

Who extends  His arm on the cross 

To help us reach the other side .

A successful tightrope walker relies 

On his training 

And does not dare let thoughts of doubt 

Or defeat take over his mind .

We must rely on God’s past faithfulness 

And dare not doubt that God 

Is at work in our lives 

To answer our prayers

Prove It

We sometimes are like enemies of God 

When we ask God to prove Himself .

We hold on to guilt and forget 

That we have God’s favor .

We forget God’s past faithfulness .

We need to spend time 

Reading God’s word 

To let God reveal  who He really is ?

We are no longer enemies of God .

We are His children.

We are guaranteed our Father’s favor .

Remember , when God helps and comfort us 

It brings Him glory and puts 

Our enemies to shame .

I can not hold you in my arms  

And time only adds to my pain .

I am so tired and not to strong  .

Though I can not choose how God works ,

I have the assurance that my hope

With the water of Baptism

God cares very deeply for us.

Life’s Problems

When we are faced with our life’s problems. ,

We can be spiritually blinded 

To all that God is doing in our lives 

Every day .

When our focus is on our problems 

We just only see the worldly things 

That are stacked up against us .

When we are reminded that we have a God.  

Who truly loves us so much 

That he would  allow His own Son to die 

For our sins 

And rise victoriously for our salvation ,

We can not ever doubt  that He is at work 

In the midst of our problems

There are days when I push  myself ,

Because no one is going to do it for me .

I always try to do good for others 

And call them Smiley  .

Christ is the lens 

Through which we read all of Scripture .

Christ shows how all things

Point to Him as the Messiah 

Especially His suffering and death .

The cross , an instrument of torture

Is the place of. His glory

And our redemption .

 Are our compasses .

When we have lost our way , 

We need only look to the Scriptures 

And the cross of Christ 

To find our way again .

Our life is just as secure ,

as we are connected

To the vine that is Christ  ,

Prayer, His Word, Fellowship with others .

Each  keeps us connected to Him 

And the life He freely gives .

Be happy to make the trip 

To the table of the Lord ,

You do not have it all together .

One need only come in humility 

And faith to receive what the Lord gives 

By way of His gifts .

And wine ,

I am praying for all today .

What Do We Need

What do we need to make ourselves  right ?

Jesus who peers deeply into our sinful

And others in thankfulness ,service

Avail yourself this day of the same strength 

And blessings .

Our God and Savior are ever ready

As for traveling companions  to afford us

We are always serving for peace ,

Something to bring serenity 

Both  to our steps  we make by day 

And our sleep at night .

With sin and it’s consequences 

Ever ready to unsettle us .

Peace is a commodity consistently 

Sought but rarely found .

Truth be told it can be found 

Only in our Savior .

Who freely forgives us our sins .

To know we do not deserve is a source 

Of immense comfort .

To rise each day in the hope of God’s grace 

To to lie down each evening 

In the Savior’s forgiveness

Brings peace beyond measure

No True Losses

There are true losses in Christ ,

Except for our sin that was crucified with Christ .

Once for all on Calvary’s cross .

This is where our Heavenly Father 

Takes even the worse ,

Tilling it under with grace 

So  that what comes forth 

Is a garden of beauty .

Not all things in our life time ends well .

But God is gracious ,

Turning the compost of our lives 

Into fertile soil  

Producing fertile fruit for Him

I Often Neglect

I often neglect to tell God 

How I am doing , because I feel 

That my struggles are insignificant 

Compared to the hardships 

Others are experiencing

But when I do this ,

I ignore the fact that God

What is causing me pain 

Or what is weighting. On my heart .

God even wants to hear about my day

Most Of My Life

For most of my life  ,

I have thanked  God for. The things 

God has created 

Like the earth , the animals , the stars 

With the mentality 

That it is in the past 

But as I watch my plants   Blooming .

I am reminded that God  is creating  .

I find new blessings when I see 

A colorful sunset ,

A falling star , a eclipses ,

A healing with a troubled mind 

Or a new start after forgiveness .

A multitude  of blessings 

Surround me as God’s creation
