A South Dakota Valentine

Let us go to the river and sit by The evergreen trees .
Let us try and get a few walleyes .
Let us put our chairs side by side ,
We will see the shadows on the clear blue water .
We will make funny faces ,
We are so happy.
I will pull some pasque flowers
And give them to her .
As the day gets longer ,
We will be surprised to look over there
And see the Chinese ring-neck pheasant
Trying to sneak by
As the alfalfa moved with the wind .
I did not surprise her ,
When we spent the beautiful day together,
By asking her to be my South Dakota Valentine
Today.
She will always be my honey bee
