I know I am compelled to pray
For all those I know who need prayer
Even those who caused heart break .
Our faith journey may takes us places
We would not choose to go .
Our faith journey may causes us to experience
Emotions that we would rather leave buried .
Our suffering can break us open ,
Enlarge our capacity to recognize
And relieve the suffering of others
Or it can leave us bitter and angry .
I can not think of a better reason
To pray than to keep our hearts open
When everything in us wants to slam it shut
But I will keep praying .
