At The Diner

With close friends in the little diner

At the edge of town 

Where we like to meet to share 

Our lives and we talk of the conflict 

And scandal involving those in authority 

All over the world .

Instead of vending our frustration and our fears ,

We join hands and pray 

For those in authority 

We make special petitions 

And we chose some aspects of leaders 

For which we could give thanks .

With pancakes and coffee and green tea 

We are surprised at how much more tranquil 

Our conversation became .
