To Hug

When someone has lost someone

And you want to console them 

To help them face their fierce 

Anguish and unimaginable lose .

You go see them .

You pray for wisdom 

And you rehearse your condolence .

But when you get to your friend's home 

And see the numb and grief stricken face 

You simply begin to weep and hold out your arms 

To embrace his grief .

Sometimes the presence of God's love

Can best be expressed in a shared hug 

And in mingled tears .
